Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation Honors Local Humanitarians: On November 17, nearly 150 community residents joined the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation at the Halifax Plantation Golf Club to honor Palm Coast residents Peter and Sue Freytag as the 2015 Humanitarians of the Year. This recognition is awarded annually by the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation to recognize an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the community, both in personal time and energy, as well as financial support. “We are honored to celebrate Peter and Sue tonight. They are very generous and believe charity begins at home,” said John Subers, Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation executive director. “They are a blessing to this community in so many ways.” The Freytag’s have been very involved in the community since moving to Palm Coast in 2002. They were instrumental in creating Florida Hospital Flagler’s pediatric rehabilitation center and, along with their four children, are founding members of the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation’s 20/20 Society. Additionally, Peter is a Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation board member. The Palm Coast couple also supports the local library, the Palm Coast Arts Society and the Washington Oaks State Park. In addition, they are involved in the local “Take Stock in Children” program, providing two college scholarships for deserving high school students with financial and social challenges. “It was a very special night. We are honored and humbled by the award,” said Sue Freytag. “Peter and I are blessed and feel fortunate to be able to give back to our community.” Previous Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation Humanitarians of the Year include: Tony and Dottie Papandrea (2014); Charles M. Helms (2013); Kathy McKenna (2012); Annie W. Woodard (2011); Elmer C. Stainbrook (2010); and Jerald K. Tranzow (2009).
