Quarter-Size Hail Strafes Flagler in Morning Storm

April brought just 2.18 inches of rain in the region, not far off the average for the month of 2.12 since 1995. But this morning’s storm in Palm Coast and Bunnell signaled that the rainier season is nearing. It did so with hail.

The National Weather Service reports that a moist air mass ahead of a cold front combined with cooler temperatures to trigger a thunderstorm over Flagler County that produced widespread pea-size to quarter-size hail this morning.

Hail fell across Bunnell and parts of Palm Coast between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m., the weather service reports. Some resident reported hail the size of half dollars. (No Harriet Tubman sightings just yet.) Hail reports were received from along State Road 100 and parts of central Palm Coast. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reported a vehicle struck by lightning at SR100 and Interstate 95. The vehicle was disabled and ended up under the overpass.

The weather service released the image above and the images below.

The hail not a big deal, but the major flooding of A1A in Flagler Beach is. Fix that county with your deep pockets.
