The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation awarded the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office its third re-accreditation since receiving initial accreditation in February 2005.
The Sheriff’s Office was re-accredited in February 2008 and again in September 2011. The work, direction and vision to obtain initial accreditation came from Sheriff Jim Manfre in his first term as Flagler County sheriff (2000-2004). An onsite team of three assessors selected by CFA arrived at the Sheriff’s Office on July 28, 2015, and over a three-day period reviewed all applicable general orders, practices and procedures for all areas except that of the jail. The assessors also interviewed employees and conducted ride-a-longs to view our compliance in action. In the end, the Sheriff’s Office received the unanimous vote of the three assessors to receive re-accreditation. The Sheriff’s Office complied with all applicable mandatory and nonmandatory CFA accreditation standards.
“I am so proud of the men and women at the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office for their hard work and dedication to this re-accreditation process. It was a tough start in January 2013 when I took office. After the arrest and firing of the accreditation staff of the former administration due to a delayed internal investigation and the hiring of new personnel and their challenge to rewrite every general order and form used to bring the Sheriff’s Office into compliance with applicable CFA standards, our employees stepped up to the challenge and have made this a professional agency once again,’’ Manfre said.
“The assessment team found the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in compliance with all applicable standards. The team was impressed with the willingness to provide assistance that was exhibited by all members of the department. It is apparent from the review of the accreditation files and interviews with department personnel that the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has re-established a commitment and a dedication towards accreditation and the spirit of accreditation. Furthermore, Sheriff Manfre and his staff have made a solid commitment to providing the citizens of Florida with the most professional and effective law enforcement services possible. The assessment team would like to especially compliment and thank the accreditation team for their assistance during the assessment. It was invaluable and exemplified the professional attitude found throughout the department,” said lead assessor Chief Deputy Rick Hawthorne of the Gulf Breeze Police Department.
The FCSO is currently seeking a second state accreditation for the Communications Unit and for the first time initial accreditation with the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission for our new jail upon its completion in 2016. For more information on the accreditation process, see the website.

Congratulations to Sheriff Manfre and all our deputies, supervisors and volunteers Observer Patrol for a good job done. What a difference the current leadership made, from years ago after calling our law enforcement on an neighborhood incident I was told “that I would greatly benefit by moving away” , Not only I didn’t move away but made sure to vote for new sheriff.
I only would ask Sheriff Manfre to please keep those patrols alert for speeders in cars and or motorcycles specially from Friday to Sunday as just seating in the very populated C section close to PC Parkway the roaring engines and speed reminds us of a tragedy ready to happen any time.
Also we need our sheriff water patrol in our canals past the Palm Coast Marina speed zone, because I believe new arrivals are totally unaware of the No-Wake in our saltwater canals due to lack of signs or they
just believe they can get away with it totally oblivious to manatees and also the damage inflicted in our shore lines and seawalls by racing their wave runners or vessels like they are in open waters. Volunteers should be available to defray cost of water patrol. I would volunteer if needed after taking the coast guard safety course. Also school crossing guards should be given the authority also to make fast zooming vehicle passing by students to SLOW DOWN! to avoid tragedies. Just my personal opinion.
