Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre performed a swearing-in ceremony today to welcome the latest detention deputy to the Flagler County jail. She is Danielle Basciano from Tomoka Correctional Institution in Daytona Beach where she worked for four months.
Basciano, 22, attended Daytona State College’s corrections basic recruit academy and Salem International University, Salem, W.Va. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. During the swearing-in at the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Operations Center, Sheriff Manfre wished her luck and reminded her that the new Flagler County jail is due to open soon. “This is a very important time for the Sheriff’s Office.”
With the swearing-in of Basciano, the inmate facility has 48 sworn deputies and three vacant positions, for a total of 51 sworn positions.
Basciano said she’s always wanted to be a law enforcement officer. In college, she had an instructor who had worked as a detention deputy and that impressed and inspired her. “I have a lot of friends who are cops,” she said. “I like the controlled environment of a prison. This is a department where I can see myself finishing my career.”
