The National Weather Service has issued a dangerous heat advisory for northeast Florida, starting this afternoon and into early evening, as temperatures combined with high humidity will result in a heat index of 105 to 100 in parts of Florida, and up to 104 in Palm Coast.
An approaching cold front will then create a squall line of strong to severe thunderstorms that will start in southeast Georgia in the afternoon, moving into northeast Florida tonight. Damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible. Winds will then develop, creating rough surf and an elevated risk of rip currents.
The hotter temperatures will prevail in southeast Georgia. In Palm Coast, temperatures are expected to reach into the mid-90s.
Stay hydrated: severe heat kills, especially when you are not well hydrated. Never leave children or pets in vehicles unattended. Limit your outdoor activities, including sports.
