Desir Desinor, a 65-year-old resident of Palm Coast’s R Section, died and an 18-year-old woman was seriously hurt in a head-on collision on Old Kings Road south of Oak Trails in Palm Coast Saturday evening. Desinor was pronounced dead a few hours after the crash.
Old Kings Road was shut down after the 8 p.m. crash at Oak Trails at the north end, and at Town Center Boulevard at the south end.
According to Florida Highway Patrol investigators at the scene, Brianna Peres, 18, of Palm Coast, was driving a Cadillac STS north and was passing cars when she ran out of room and crashed into the Toyota Corolla Desinor was driving south. The investigator said witnesses reported Peres had been passing “at least two” cars immediately before impact, on a relatively short stretch of a passing zone.
She spoke to troopers at the hospital and said she had passed vehicles, but a distance away from the area of the crash. As she drove further north, she told troopers, her car started hydroplaning, she crossed the center line, and ran into Desinor’s car.
Peres was ejected, with the brunt of the impact smashing in the passenger side of the Cadillac. “However, she was OK,” an investigator said, suffering some injuries but not requiring a trauma evacuation. She was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler.
Desinor, however, was essentially crushed in at the wheel of the Corolla, was taken out of the vehicle with a Glasgow Coma Scale reading of 3–the lowest possible, on a scale of 15: Desinor was not responsive. An emergency helicopter was placed on standby but couldn’t fly because of the weather: it was raining heavily. Desinor, a resident of Palm Coast’s R Section for the last dozen years, was transported by Flagler County Fire Rescue to Halifax hospital in Daytona Beach, where attempts to revive him continued.
The Cadillac ended up facing northeast, on the edge of the northbound lane of Old Kings Road, after spinning a distance following the collision. The Toyota also spun off the road, crashing into a line of shrubs and ending up facing north, past the southbound shoulder, its front end completely crushed in beyond recognition.
In addition to FHP and the Sheriff’s Office, Flagler County Fire Rescue and the Palm Coast Fire Department responded, and the Palm Coast Fire Police redirected traffic. John’s Towing towed the vehicles at 9:30 p.m., and the road reopened at 10 p.m.
Desinor worked as a maintenance crew member at Grand Haven. Peres works at a local KFC.

I hope everyone will be OK. Yet this is another senseless incident on our roadways.
Old Kings Road has become notoriously dangerous. People fly down this road with no regard for any ones safety.
Day after day I see people pass when they shouldn’t or tailgate cause they don’t like the fact that you might be doing the posted speed limit.
We seem to have forgotten that stop signs, stop lights, and posted speed limits are actually a requirement and rule of the road. Not a suggestion or when you feel like it.
Driving distracted, aggressive or careless makes you an ass hat and puts others in danger. Why should I pay for your carelessness because you thought you were in a hurry?
Sure more enforcement might prevent this incidents from occurring. Before you go deflecting blame remember accountability starts behind the wheel.

The woman involved in this accident is reckless and needs to lose her licenses. She is not prepared for the responsibility of driving a vehicle on public roads. Her poor decision to pass other drivers the way she did has nearly killed someone and hurt herself. This type of behavior irritates me beyond belief.
My thoughts and prayers are with the man seriously hurt in this accident.

I drive a city truck and I am not allowed to go over the posted speed limit when I am on old kings road I cannot do more than 45 or else I will be recorded and the idiots arei on your bumper and pass ypo constantly at dangerous areas of old King Road . I guess its the challenge of always wanting to being ahead of everyone else go for it you idiots I want no part of it

Increase the fines/jail time for these STUPID drivers! Speeding,passing two cars during a Rain Storm; does this STUPID have a “Death Wish”! Palm Coast has some of the BEST roads in America; there should be any STUPID accidents like this! Drive SAFELY or Stay Home!

First, not any of us know if her story is the truth, or others! Either way accidents happen… Thus why they are called “accidents” . How about instead of condemning someone, PRAY! Pray that both lives heal physically and mentally, and that hopefully something was learned from this!!!!
I am a mother of 3 teenage drivers!!! All I can and will hope for my babies is that the driving safely and staying alert will keep them safe. But even that doesn’t protect them from “drunk drivers, careless driver’s, ect)….
I myself am not going to crucify an “accident” …. I am going to pray the gentlemen pulls through a speedy recovery, as well as the young lady…. And hope that as I showed my kids this article, that something can be learned and hopefully prevented in the future.

I drive Old Kings almost daily, it’s an annex between the two sides of town without having to go through several traffic lights to get to the highway…and back. Everyone is commenting on two completely different issues. The first is the 18 year old that used extremely poor judgement and as a new driver, has NO BUSINESS even trying to “pass”, let alone at night and in the rain. I have had driver trainer classes (to be a test car driver) and even I would still not try to pass, at night, nor in the rain. Variable conditions. There should probably be *more* restrictions on new drivers for the first 3-5 years, after probation, which still prohibits things like passing or highway driving.
The second is the issue of “passing” of Old Kings. This has nothing to do with an inexperienced 18-year old. That stretch of road is very long. I often get behind a car that is going 40 or less. Those that set their speed control at 45, which is totally fine, I never/ever climb up on someone I wish was going faster, nor would I ever “harass” or drive ride up on someone because _I_ want to go faster…. I really don’t. But sometimes I want to go faster than 40-45. I am a respectful driver, and genuinely not angry. I will pass. In the right conditions. I will only pass in the dashed yellow-lines area. I’m not aggressive about it, will use my signal for passing in both directions. You have chosen your speed, which is fine. I want to have a different one, and simply want to pass. But 95% of the time, the person I’m trying to pass gets pissed and starts SPEEDING UP as I’m trying to pass, making it very difficult and SCARY to complete! WHY? Why do the people getting passed get angry about it and try to make it difficult? Why don’t they help? Why not think “I’d like you not behind me anyway, and I don’t want anyone hurt, gobabygo” and hold their speed, or even back off for a brief second, to aide? Because. The people that are holding the speed limit or lower feel superior and judgmental about those that want to make a different decision, even if they’re keeping it within the dashed-line law or aren’t being aggressive about it.
Being “passed” isn’t automatically a derelict maneuver. You have your comfort speed zone. Others have their own. If you aren’t being “ridden up on” aggressively, nor being dangerously “cut off”, being *passed* is legal and shouldn’t raise your ire.

I hope that justice prevails for the family that lost their loved one. A man driving down a road minding his own business trying to get home to his family, A 18 year old in a hurry to get no where passing cars in the rain without any respect for other drivers hits an oncoming car then tries to blame it on hydroplaning (are you serious).. Now she is sorry?? Really She destroyed his family FOREVER!!!! It will not bring Mr.Desir Desinor back, but I hope this young lady pays for what she has caused for her complete ignorance and that justice is served!!! How about “old drivers” who doing other things while driving, with varying speed of 30 to 50 mph and swinging all over the road.
Card dash cameras are available and should be used for lawenforcement purpose. Oh, yah, I forgot the story about redlight cameras.

I am deeply saddened by this tragedy. So many lives changed in an instant. One family will have to live without their loved one. One will more than likely be visiting their daughter in jail, or some type of facility. She will have to live with her actions of last night for a lifetime. So very sad all the way around. Now, with that being said…Flagler County Law Enforcement better get off of their asses and start doing their jobs!! I have never lived anywhere, where the cops did sooo little!! Start patroling the roads!!!
Oh, and I’d still like to know who was driving the orange trunk when they killed someone on Belle Terre on July 1st, after running a red traffic light!!

First of all, this poor 18 year old is living with a lesson that she’ll never be able to take back. She’s living in a hell all on her own knowing that the family members of this poor man will never see him again. I can’t believe this was done intentionally. But, have some empathy for this young lady and the family members of this poor man that lost his life. People makes mistakes everyday that don’t result in this type of tragedy but could. Let’s just all be more safe and aware of our surroundings. Stop judging the mistakes of others and learn from them instead.

One person is in Heaven and the other is going through Hell. We all can learn compassion and forgiveness at this time. I have compassion for the teen’s parents and family of the deceased lady. This is very sad. Driving vehicles are the cause of many deaths but many don’t think it can happen or be caused by them. I vote for a mass transit system in Palm coast. An above ground rail system to cut down on all the cars on the road. Scooter/bike lanes and more sidewalks.

Everyone is very quick to speak cruelly. If it is coming from the family of the victim its understandable considering the anger you are feeling right now. My heart goes out to you and what you have lost. But for others to condemn a person they don’t know based on one media report and pretend that this young girl is not deeply disturbed by her actions is ignorant and hateful. She WILL forever live with that guilt and who knows how that will affect the rest of her life. And I know others will say “at least she has a life” which is true, but it will not turn back time to hate someone for an accidental tragedy. All parties involved have had their lives changed forever. If it was my family member that was lost I would pray for the ability to forgive and find peace that this was not intentional. She was NOT drinking and driving or under the influences of any drugs. It was an accident ….a very unfortunate accident. Prayers for everyone involved

I see people of all ages driving distracted, most by using their phones. We drive the speed limit and are tailgated every day.
We must remember that a car is a lethal weapon. We all MUST be more careful.

Apparently she was going 55 in a 50 mph zone. EVERYONE is guilty of this. What is the minimum speed that a car can be going and start to hydroplane? If low tread tires hit standing water at lower speeds, will they not react the same way and hydroplane as well?

Mandatory jail time 5 years for .involuntary manslaughter. Every teenager about to get their driver’s license should be shown what her stupidity caused and where she landed. This girl, no matter her age deliberately chose to speed and pass other drivers on a wet road. Knowing there isn’t any space and that it is raining. She made that choice and in the end it cause a family to lose their father to a tragic, fatal car accident. Look at the aftermath of her mistake, look at the picture of his Toyota Corrolla. This man was crushed behind the wheel, all he probably saw in the matter of seconds was a flash of light and bam!
The girl made it to the age of 18, she was in school, had a job. I’m sure she was always reminded to drive safe and be smart on the roads. She’s coherent enough to be able to pass her learners permit, take the drivers course and get her Drivers License. She clearly knew right from wrong but thought she could possibly get away with passing all these cars( and in order to pass you must speed up, so clearly she was speeding and going over the limit). She knew right from wrong and her wrong took a man’s life. Took a husband, took a father, took a grandpa. So please stop trying to plead that she’s young and going through so much and let’s all feel empathy for her. Does it suck that her actions caused such a tragedy? Yes, but she MADE the choice to drive like a bat out of hell knowing the risk and consequences that followed. The evidence is clear and according to the article she admitted to the troopers that she was in the wrong.

Not the first to die on that road and not the last. I know many people personally that have died on that road. Follow the speed limit and don’t be reckless. It maybe the last poor decision you ever make. Don’t make that decision of someone else. RIP

Praying for the family who lost their loved one. This should of NEVER happened!! I agree this road is soooo dangerous! Law Enforcement REALLY need to up their patrols on the roads.. specially where they KNOW that careless driving is occurring on an hour to hour basis! Not claiming to be best parent of the year by no means.. cause NONE of us are.. but we all need to learn how to tell our kids NO sometimes. I already had my oldest son whose 22 now go through the teenage new driver phase and every time he would go out I would drill him on how to drive careful and make my point that NO cell phone use was allowed AT ALL. Even went as far as to disable the radio in the car and finally give him a hug and make sure to say I love you every time he would walk out that door and hand him over to God to hold him safe. His brother also had to wait till he was 16 before getting his permit.
My heart and prayers go out this family who lost their loved one for NO reason at all.. and now an 18 year old has to live with the consequences and this guilt for the rest of her life that she took another for being straight out stupid! Do not wish that upon anyone. No winners at all from just HAVING to be the car in the front…
