Bunnell Man Charged With Rape and Kidnapping as Child Pleads for Mom’s Safety

Louis Donald Jackson, a 40-year-old Bunnell resident who goes by the street name of “Duck,” is in jail on charges of rape, aggravated assault with a firearm, cocaine possession with intent to sell, and four other charges following his arrest by the Bunnell Police Department and a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team Wednesday at 700 East Lambert Street in Bunnell, where Jackson lived.

The alleged rape took place while the victim’s young son was outside Jackson’s bedroom door, and as the child repeatedly knocked on the door to ask if his mother was all right, only to hear the man tell him to sit on the couch.

The arrest follows an investigation by Bunnell Police Cpl. Sergio Pina and officer Michael Stavris, on whose reports, including an audio interview with the victim and forensic results from a sexual assault examination at the Child Advocacy Center, the following narrative of the events leading to Jackson’s arrest is based. Forensic evidence aside, the narrative of the attack is based entirely on the victim’s allegations. The details about what was found in Jackson’s house, including the details of his weaponry, are based on police findings through a search warrant.

Around 10 p.m. on Sept. 26, the victim was hanging out with friends in an undisclosed local area when Jackson approached her and asked for a ride to Seminole Woods and back. Jackson and the victim had previously been involved in a casual relationship, which had included sex. That had ended a month earlier, when Jackson had wanted the relationship to become more serious, according to the victim. She initially refused to give him a ride. He cursed and threatened her, then offered $20. She relented.

In the car, Jackson spoke about wanting to be involved with the victim again, and was again told that by the victim that she wanted to remain friends, nothing further. Back at 700 E. Lambert Street, Jackson asked the victim to come into the house with him. She was with her young son. They both went in. Jackson’s room-mate was home. Jackson asked the victim to go into his bedroom for privacy, though initially the room’s door was left open. “After speaking to Mr. Jackson for a few minutes, he grabbed her and attempted to pull off her shorts,” the report states. She refused and yelled to “get off of me,” at which point, according to the report, Jackson allegedly began choking the victim–and the child entered the room, telling Jackson: “Don’t hurt my mommy.”

Jackson got up, told the child that everything was all right, and closed the door, locking it. The child was on the other side of the door at that point. The struggle between Jackson and the victim resumed. Jackson, who is a stocky man–he’s 5-7, weighs 210 pounds–allegedly overcame the woman’s resistance even as she was screaming and crying. She said she could feel Jackson’s gun in his waistband, and told police that he both complained to her that he could not get an erection because she was crying and threatened her numerous times: “Shut up or I will kill you.” The victim’s son kept knocking on the door. Jackson would stop the struggle occasionally to tell the child to go back to the the couch. The victim claimed he pointed the gun–not directly at her, but above her head.

Eventually, Jackson undressed the victim and allegedly–without a condom, but with lubricant usually distributed by the Health Department–penetrated the victim. Evidence was recovered during the forensic examination. When he was done. Jackson allegedly stood up and opened the door. The child went into the room, hugged his mother and asked if “Duck” had hurt her. The victim gathered her things and tried to leave. Jackson stood by her vehicle and tried to apologize–and attempted to kiss her again even as she told him to stay away from her, according to the report.

The woman first went to briefly make contact with friends, then went to the Kangaroo store on East Moody Blvd. and called police.

The alleged incident took place in the early hours of Sept. 27. Pina secured two warrants from Circuit Judge Sharon Atack for the rape and assault charges. The sheriff’s office secured a separate warrant for the search warrant of the home, and a subsequent warrant to search for narcotics, once a prescription bottle was found with what appeared to be crack cocaine.

The following items were retrieved from Jackson’s bedroom:

• The original prescription bottle containing about 1.7 grams of a substance tested to be cocaine.
• A Phoenix Arms .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun with an unreadable serial number, which had been filed down. The gun magazine contained four rounds.
• Eight .45 caliber rounds.
• Two Wellburtin pills (prescription-only medication).
• A digital scale.
• A small baggie containing white powder believed to be cocaine.

A check of Jackson’s records, according to police, revealed that he’s been convicted of “several felonies.” He was last booked in the Flagler County jail in November 2009 on a cocaine possession charge, parole violation, loitering and obstructing justice.

He faces the following charges:

• Sexual battery (rape).
• Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
• Possession of cocaine with intent to sell.
• Possession of a firearm, ammunition or electric devices by a convicted felon.
• Possession of an altered firearm.
• Possession of a legend drug without a prescription.
• Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jackson remains at the Flagler County jail on $186,000 bond.
