Nancy Louise Winans, who’ll be celebrating her 62nd birthday in a couple of weeks, was traveling north on U.S. 1 early this morning when, for unknown reasons, she veered off the road in her relatively new Land Rover Rover, over-corrected, and rolled what appeared to be once, according to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper at the scene. The SUV came to rest on its side (the driver’s side) well past the road’s shoulder.

Winans is from Rolland Lane in Palm Coast. She was on her way to work and was wearing her seat-belt. Winans’ injuries were “nothing major,” the trooper said. “If they ambulatory you, it’s nothing major.”

The wreck took place just after 7 a.m. Thursday morning. The sun had barely risen. The highway was dry. Traffic was light. The Land Rover rolled 200 yards north and across from the entrance to Palm Coast’s water plant #3 on U.S. 1.
