A Nissan SUV overturned after it was t-boned at the intersection of Whiteview Parkway and U.S. 1 in Palm Coast shortly after 10 a.m. Friday, resulting in one minor injury to the driver of the car that struck the SUV.

The wreck involved the Nissan and a Dodge Magnum. A late-middle aged couple was in the Dodge. The driver sustained an injury to his right hand, which was treated at the scene. The Palm Coast resident driving the SUV that overturned was not injured. All three individuals spoke and exchanged insurance information after the wreck.

The driver of the SUV was traveling south and making a left at the intersection, onto Whiteview. There is a flashing orange light there, which means drivers must take caution as they make the left, yielding to oncoming traffic. “I was turning left and the other gentleman was northbound on U.S. 1, he t-boned me,” the driver of the SUV said.

Moments later, the woman who had been a passenger in the Dodge approached a reporter and said: “He turned on yellow in front of us.”

The SUV ended up on its side facing north, in the right lane of U.S. 1’s northbound lanes. The Dodge ended up facing north closer to the median at the intersection.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the scene. The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue responded, as did the Palm Coast Fire Police. Roger’s Towing cleared the scene by 10:30 a.m., and normal traffic patterns resumed.

I live right by here and use this intersection all the time. People do not understand what the flashing yellow light means. You must yield to all oncoming traffic in all directions, but 90% of the time people pull out in front of me when they are making a turn from that light. I’m sick of this stupid “Me first” attitude from drivers in Palm Coast.

  2. Charles Ericksen, Jr says:

Clearly, the turning driver did not understand the new light system, nor the fact you yield on caution.
The next collision will occur at Bulldog and SR100..Traffic moves too fast on SR100 to make this an option at that intersection..but never the less, the State installed it..

I have seen people make left turns on flashing left red. I have seen people make left turns from the right lane. I have seen people stop for a right turn and not turn right until the light turns green. It is clear some people just don’t know the rules of the road.

Quote: “I was turning left and the other gentleman was northbound on U.S. 1, he t-boned me,” the driver of the SUV said.

Clearly the SUV driver is clueless.

Glad my family…in the dodge was ok and DODGED what could have been much worse!!!!

    Glad everyone is alright

  6. Nancy N says:

No matter what the light said…why on earth would the SUV driver pull out when it must have been obvious that the Dodge was going at speed and not stopping? That’s just not paying attention to your environment as a driver!

  7. David B says:

I knew this would happen someday. People don’t understand what a flashing yellow arrow light means.

  8. Derrick R. says:

I’d be happier still if the boss at the sign department listen to me 6 months ago when I told him at the Citizens Academy’s Workshop he needed to fix the spelling error on the White View Signage or is it all one word Whiteview? Think I’m joking? Go and check the signs on US 1 then on Belle Terre ..
