Sgt. Philip Reynolds was named Deputy of the Year in the road patrol division and Nathan Hockenberry was named the Corrections Deputy of the Year for 2012 at the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Flagler County Sheriff Don Fleming made the announcements during a recent awards dinner the agency schedules annually. Reynolds was presented with the “Deputy George Durrance Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award,” named in honor of the Flagler deputy who killed in the line of duty in 1927.

Corrections Deputy Hockenberry was presented the “Sheriff Hugh Drummond Award” by Fleming during the same ceremony. Hockenberry has been with the Flagler County jail since March 2010.

Sgt. Reynolds is the District Two supervisor of Charlie Squad. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in June 2000. The award recognizes the sergeant for his individual excellence, teamwork and professional service. He gained the respect and trust of his co-workers and the community, according to a sheriff’s office release, his motivation to complete tasks as relentless as his diligence in his duties. The award also recognizes Reynolds for his dedication and his ability to promote “Honor, Integrity and Excellence,” the core values of the sheriff’s office.

“This is going to a man who proudly serves his community to the best of his ability,” Fleming said of Reynolds.

Hockenberry was recently appointed to a new, specialized unit at the county jail, coordinating the transportation of inmates to and from the courthouse for court appearances. His attention to detail along with his positive attitude has created a cooperative mentality that reflected in the professionalism of the Transport Unit.

“Since joining the FCIF, this corrections officer has proven to be a self-starter and an asset to the corrections staff. He is well-deserving of this award,” Fleming said.
