At around 4:30 p.m. today (April 6) a Flagler County Sheriff’s deputy on a motorcycle was involved in a collision with a vehicle on Belle Terre Parkway near St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. The deputy sustained minor injuries, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Debbie Johnson, and was transported to Florida Hospital Flagler.

The deputy, Billy Lowe, was backing up another deputy on a traffic stop when he turned to spin around at the scene, and the vehicle struck him from behind.

The Florida Highway Patrol is handling–and investigating–the case, though for at least two hours after the collision, the area around collision zone on Belle Terre was teeming with law enforcement vehicles, fire police and related activity.

The identity of the driver of the vehicle, a Volkswagen Beetle decorated in Florida Gator colors, has not yet been released.
