Lee Ann Daley, a 46-year-old Palm Coast resident, was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 1 in Palm Coast when a driver going the wrong way struck her car a little before 9 p.m. Friday.

The crash took place on U.S. 1 near Commerce Boulevard. A 64-year-old Palm Coast man, in whom authorities would later observe signs of impairment, had gotten on the southbound lanes of U.S. 1, driving a pick-up truck north. Daley was driving a 2018 Chevy Malibu, going south, when they collided.

The 64-year-old man was not injured. Daley was entrapped in the Malibu. Authorities placed an emergency helicopter on standby, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was the mother of three children. A chaplain was sent to the family home in the F Section. Daley was a hair stylist at a business in Palm Coast.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s trooper Darin Harper is investigating the crash with Traffic Homicide Investigator Randal Slocum. Flagler County Sheriff’s units were first at the scene. The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue also responded. Traffic was rerouted at Palm Coast Parkway and U.S. 1 as the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were closed during the investigation, which stretched into the night.

Friday night’s crash resulted in the second road fatality on Flagler roads this month, and the 24th involving a fatality this year in the county, with a total of 27 people killed, exceeding last year’s total by 10.  This year’s toll on Flagler roads is the fourth heaviest in the last 22 years.

Back in 2003, my visitors from South Florida and I were almost killed by a drunk
who had left the White Eagle Tavern on northbound US-1, only he was going south
    on our side.

We would have collided head-on at a combined 100+ miles an hour.

Our sympathies go to Lee Ann Daley’s family and friends.
    It’s a damned shame.

My God! So sad to see this news article. When will the stupid idiots learn not to drive while impaired? I am no angel, but I learned my lesson without killing anyone.
More than two beers? pay for a cab or let someone else drive.
Once you kill someone there is no “do ever”.

What a memorable Christmas for her three children. I hope the pickup driver rots in jail. Go ahead, have another drink, you’re good to drive, no worries.

Why don’t you just go straight to hell instead of jail and putting the family through the pain of a trial.
You crushed a beautiful life, mother of 3, a week before Christmas you old bastard
    RIP Lee Ann

God bless this beautiful young ladies family & friends. My heart hurts for them. My thoughts & prayers will be with the family.

  12. Laurel says

    December 18, 2022 at 4:17 pm

Michael: The speed limits are not “insane,” in fact, traffic is annoyingly slow. The speed limits in Florida have nothing to do with a drunken driver. This guy will get off if he has the right lawyer. I was once rear-ended while legally doing 50 mph. The fellow who hit me fell asleep at the wheel; he had no clue how fast he was going. Thank goodness I wasn’t at a stoplight!

That aside, it is so heartbreaking to see this happen to a lovely, young lady, and mom. I feel for her family. It’s so, so sad.

Unfortunately, US1 has few lights, and it is so hard to determine distances of others at night.

How do u collide with a wrong way driver….especially at night? I had a guy driving north in the south bound lane pass me one night. I pulled off the road and flashed my lights at him. Get out of the way! Day or night u can see them coming.

  21. D A says

It’s a shame that this POS of a so called man survives this horrific accident while an innocent woman is killed and now 3 kids are without a mother because some drunk decides to drive on the wrong side of road without any regard for human life. We need to start treating these negligent crimes as murder charges. It’s not fair that laws are so lax for impaired driving. This POS should pay to support these 3 kids for the rest of his life now. No amount of justice can bring back Leeann but for the sake of the kids and so he remembers for rest of his life this driver should be responsible to pay to support these poor kids monthly for his gross negligence. RIP Leeann. You will be missed. God bless these 3 kids.

I am curious why they have an identified the driver of the truck. They know he’s 64 years old they know he’s was driving a truck and know he’s impaired. I wonder if the family is outraged that this man is not identified

  23. Lynn Stote says

Why was not the name of the driver of the vehicle involved in this deadly crash not identified?

  24. J. says

    December 20, 2022 at 4:20 pm

What does the act of one person have to do with population? One person made a decision to drive impaired.

Perhaps (oh I don’t know) maybe she did and the impaired driver crashed into her. She died and this is your first thought? Sad.

  27. Saddened Citizen says

    December 21, 2022 at 12:11 pm

The impaired driver turned into the wrong lane of a four lane highway, probably believing he was heading north in the northbound lane, when in fact he was heading north in the southbound lane. This had nothing to do with speeding per se. It had to do with impaired judgement. Wrong-way driving is a mistake that many can make if they simply aren’t paying mental attention or they become distracted externally by something. Its a tragedy and our hearts go out to her family and friends.

  29. Laurel says

    December 21, 2022 at 4:56 pm

Local: Not every car has their lights on “auto.” The impaired driver might not have turned on his/her lights. Also, you really have to drive out on US1 at night to understand. It’s really difficult to judge other cars, even though there are few at night. If you do try it, be careful. The guy who ran into me at more than 50 mph did not have his lights on. I saw nothing in my rear view mirror before I was hit.

  30. Laurel says

    December 21, 2022 at 5:06 pm

Pat: Probably because you are innocent until proven guilty. With the reaction here, that’s a good idea. The best thing that could happen is when a DUI is prosecuted, there should be no getting around it legally. These guys, even found guilty, get off if they spend enough money.

Also, we should not be so damned happy about putting a Margaritaville right in the middle of Flagler Beach. The very concept is to be “wasting away again…” and being inebriated to the point of not knowing what you are doing.

  31. JohnX says

    December 22, 2022 at 8:59 am

Any update on the name of the other driver and what the circumstances were of his getting in the wrong lane? If not, when will it be released?

  32. Time for answers! says

    December 29, 2022 at 11:36 am

AND why is his name not plastered in these articles? We get to expose Leeann and the privacy of her family, but not the person who destroyed her family!
