Unless You’re a Developer, a Lobbyist, or a Fetus, Your Florida Lawmakers Don’t Care for You

December 7, 2025 | FlaglerLive | 11 Comments

florida legislature lawmakers talahassee

Ever get the feeling the Florida Legislature hates you? It does. Unless you’re a developer, a lobbyist, or a fetus. Members are filing hell-born bills for the 2026 session, many apparently designed to torment you, rob your children of their futures, and reduce this state to an ICE-filled, disease ridden, constantly flooding, unaffordable autocracy.

Gov. DeSantis Seems Hellbent on Taking Us Back to the ’60s — the 1860s

December 27, 2021 | FlaglerLive | 46 Comments

George Peter Alexander Healy - John C. Calhoun - Google Art Project.

Gov. Ron DeSantis likes to call this the “Free State of Florida.” If he hasn’t yet wrapped himself in the Tenth Amendment or threatened secession, it’s only because he’s been too busy playing soldiers, organizing his private battalion, rewriting the past, and trying to destroy democracy.

It’s Our Right as Americans to Breathe Open Air Without Some Wussy Libtard Face Diaper

Gov. Ron DeSantis and the fine MAGA folks of the Florida Legislature are right here in the state capital, passing laws telling Biden where he can stick that order making businesses with more than 100 employees mandate the vax. And yeah, it might cost the taxpayers several million for the lawsuits that’ll come out of these new bills, but keeping Florida free is worth every penny.

Rise and Fall of the Anglo-Saxon Caucus and Its Florida Fellow Travelers

Matt Gaetz, R-Lolita Shores. (Gaetz office)

You may have heard that some of the most MAGA-ty of the congressional MAGA types — Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Duelling Banjos; Paul Gosar, R-Trump Tower; plus our own Matt Gaetz, R-Lolita Shores — recently proposed a new caucus dedicated to promoting the “values” of Donald Trump, by which they mean white supremacy.

Anthony Sabatini, ‘Worst Person in the Florida Legislature,’ Launches Bid for Congress on a Lie

March 15, 2021 | FlaglerLive | 11 Comments

Not long after encouraging Florida senators and members of congress to overturn last fall's election of Joe Biden, Anthony Sabatini has declared a bid for Congress against a fellow-Republican he'd told he'd not run against. (Facebook)

The man the Orlando Sentinel once called “the worst person in the Florida Legislature” (and remember, y’all, there’s hell of a lot of competition) kicked off his bid by lying, assuring incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster that he would not run against him, then filing the paperwork to run against him.

Blame The Victim, Sports Fans: It’s Going To Be An Exciting Season for Misogyny

September 11, 2014 | FlaglerLive | 27 Comments

Following video showing Ray Rice slugging his then-fiancee, there were scores of comments along the lines of “She slapped him! He had every right to hit her,” and the bizarre “Don’t start a fight you don’t intend to finish!” Diane Roberts isn’t taking it.
