Notably: I gave you a characteristically endless entry about Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea yesterday. Here’s a shorter one. Verne’s books when he published them were all illustrated by the great Edouard Riou, who had no idea what a prophet he was. Here’s one of his illustrations in 20,000 Leagues, of a shipwreck the passengers of the Nautilus glimpse during their voyage. The ship’s name? Florida:

This is what you have when nobody’s home is in charge.

    Psychopath
    noun
A person who engages repeatedly in criminal and antisocial behavior without remorse or empathy for those victimized. A person with a personality disorder indicated by a pattern of lying, cunning, manipulating, glibness, exploiting, heedlessness, arrogance, delusions of grandeur, sexual promiscuity, low self-control, disregard for morality, lack of acceptance of responsibility, callousness, and lack of empathy and remorse. Such an individual may be especially prone to violent and criminal offenses. A person diagnosed with antisocial or dissocial personality disorder.

    Hello Laurel.

I experience bouts with delusions of grandeur. Hopefully, they are minor, rare, and fleeting, but who am I to say?

On the other hand, I long ago, just after numerous ads prompted me to the discovery of crepey skin, abandoned any hope of regaining my youthful wrinkle-free boyish figure.

After reading Dennis C. Rathsam’s comment at the top of the thread, the one about opening our national lands to exploitation because he believes we have a lack of developable land in private ownership, when in fact plenty of developable land exists outside the boundaries of our national forests, I looked in your definition for lie laundering as evidence of sociopathy. Not finding it there, Mr. Rathsam is safe for now from meeting the definition of sociopath. The personality disorder diagnosis of compulsive lie laundering remains in question.

    Oy, vey!

As an aside, the increases in crude oil quota limits for the 23 OPEC+ cartel nations, dating from this past April, are really kicking in. This morning, I spotted a neighborhood gas station selling regular gas for $2.71 per gallon.

All FlaglerLive commenters ought to anticipate that somewhat soon, Dennis C. Rathsam will start laundering the lie that the Trump administration is responsible for the drop in gasoline prices. He already repeatedly laundered the lie that Biden was responsible for increases in gasoline prices after OPEC turned down its production of crude oil in order to increase profits.

Here are the facts. U.S. crude oil production has not gone up since Trump took office. Output from OPEC is significantly higher that it was when Trump took office. Simple supply and demand. OPEC increases worldwide supply of crude oil in order to regain lost market share and to punish offending OPEC member nations that were exceeding production quota, worldwide demand remains stable, glut in crude oil in storage tanks develops, prices drop.

Ray W: I believe that Mr. Rathsam is not the psychopath, or sociopath, he is the victim of one. Therein lies the lie laundering. I believe that Trump is a narcissist. I also believe him to be a psychopath. He cares for nothing but himself.

“A narcissist is a person who is extremely self-centered and has an exaggerated sense of self-importance, often lacking empathy for others. This behavior can lead to difficulties in relationships and a constant need for admiration.”
    – Merriam-Webster, Mayo Clinic

A narcissist is generally a person who requires a great deal of attention, and admiration, in order to feel *whole*. That person uses people who are empathic, according to Carl Jung, to feel *real*. Dennis is empathic, and shows this when he writes about wildlife, and how much he cares for animals. The perfect target for a narcissist. Narcissists use these people, and manipulate them.

A perfect example of this need to manipulate was shown when some of Trump’s maga base became angry with him after the Epstein list vanished. He then posted, on Truth Social, every single buzzword, or buzz phrase, that worked for him in the past, in one tweet:
    – crooked Hillary
    – the laptop from hell
    – political fraud
    – voter fraud
    – rigged election
    – radical left lunatics
    – Obama
    – Biden
It goes on and on and on, trying to trigger his victim’s emotions, which of course, means he’s desperate and afraid. He has to get them back in line to feel whole again. He will find a way for most of them.

I do believe he is scared to death of Melania. She knows who he really is.
