On Friday (Dec. 7) Kangaroo Express, a convenience store operator, donated $110,000 to support the Florida Hospital Pink Army campaign, which provides women in need with mammograms, ultrasounds and other lifesaving services.
The funds were raised entirely by customers’ donations at the Kangaroo Express registers throughout October. During the month, 85 Kangaroo Express stores within Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Orange, Putnam, Seminole and Volusia counties hosted collections at the registers for the community members to donate to the Florida Hospital Pink Army.
The funds were divvied up between the Florida Hospital campuses in the participating counties in an effort to keep the funds raised in each community local.
“This donation was made possible by the kind and generous donations from community residents,” said Ossie Curington, Regional Sales Director for Kangaroo Express. “We wanted every dollar raised to stay as close as possible to the community. This way, the dollars raised by residents help benefit other residents in need.”
With this in mind, Florida Hospital DeLand received approximately $14,000; Florida Hospital Fish Memorial received approximately $11,000; Florida Hospital Flagler received approximately $37,000; and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center received approximately $24,000. The remaining funds went to Florida Hospitals in the Orange and Seminole counties.

Launched in the fall of 2010, Florida Hospital’s Pink Army campaign is aimed at enlisting individuals to help create greater awareness about the life-saving benefits of annual mammograms and early detection, all while having fun with friends and family.
In its first year alone, the Pink Army enlisted more than 6,000 “soldiers” to battle breast cancer in Volusia and Flagler counties. Now, armed with more than 22,000 soldiers, the Pink Army movement has swept across the state, encouraging Central Floridians to join this important cause. Kangaroo Express didn’t donate anything. They just handed over the money they collected!!!!!! With all the money they make ripping us off you would think they would at least match that amount!!!!
