James Jackson, 31, of Jacksonville, Is Killed on U.S. 1 North of Bonneval Road

February 14, 2016 | FlaglerLive | Leave a Comment

James B. Jackson, a 31-year-old resident of Jacksonville, was killed early Sunday morning and Anthony A. Jones, 39, of Jacksonville, was in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 north of Bonneval Road in Duval County.

Jones was at the wheel of a black Nissan Maxima, traveling north on U.S. 1, known as Philips Highway in that area. He was in the right travel lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Nissan than, apparently for an unexplained reason, swerved right, left the road and collided with an overhead road sign pole and utility pole, where the vehicle came to a stop.

Jackson was ejected during the crash and was later pronounced dead at U.F. Health Jacksonville. Jones was also taken to UF Health and was listed in critical condition. The wreck took place just after 2 a.m. on Feb. 14. Whether the crash is alcohol related is listed as “unknown” in the FHP crash report.

The homicide investigator is the FHP’s Cpl. Bennett.
