Flagler County’s Half-Cent Sales Taxes for Schools and Infrastructure, 2002 Referendum Results

The sales tax in Florida in 6 percent. In Flagler County, including Palm Coast, it’s 7 percent.

On September 10, 2002, Flagler County voters in two separate referendums approved two half-cent sales tax increases–one to build schools and underwrite technological improvements, the other to pay for infrastructure improvements such as roads, road-resurfacing, etc. Voters approved both.

Each measure was calculated to bring in $17.7 million over the 10-year span of the surtax.

The Flagler County School Board administers money from the first measure. Money from the county surtax is divided, according to population and road areas, among the county’s municipalities and the county.
