The Florida Hospital Flagler medical staff awarded four local graduating high school students with $750 scholarships, totaling $3,000.
Florida Hospital Flagler general surgeon Dr. John Cascone presented the awards to the students during a special ceremony at Flagler Palm Coast High School on April 21.
This year’s recipients were Flagler Palm Coast High School students Amanda Hok and Summer Wilcox, along with Matanzas High School student Meredith Wills. The John M. Canakaris, MD award, which honors a high school student that has volunteered within the community to help the underprivileged and less fortunate, was awarded to Matanzas High School student Vincent Launh.
Florida Hospital Flagler’s medical staff has provided scholarships to students at Flagler Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School since 2004. Graduating seniors complete an application and the winners are chosen from various criteria, including class rank, SAT and ACT scores, extra-curricular activities and an interest in pursuing medical field-related studies.
