To Mark Memorial Day, American Legion Post #115 received assistance from the Flagler Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution during the placement of American flags on the graves of Veterans at the Espanola Cemetery on May 28, said Randall Morris, president of the Sons of the American Revolution chapter.
The cemetery is located in the Espanola Community, the oldest existing community in Flagler County along the Old Kings Highway. Boy Scout Troop #402 and Cub Scout Pack #402, both sponsored by the United Methodist Church of Palm Coast, also assisted in the placement of the flags, along with Florida Highway Patrol Corporal Pete Young, recipient of the 2015 Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Award. Young is also Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron #115.
The American Legion Post #115 conducted a ceremony honoring deceased veterans after the flags had been placed on some 185 graves of veterans in the cemetery. The Rev. Terry Wines, First United Methodist Church of Bunnell, provided spiritual support for the ceremony and Brian Ray of the Flagler Palm Coast High School Band played taps at the conclusion.
Flagler Chapter Compatriots (also Legionnaires) President Randall Morris, 1st Vice President David Hammond and Past President David Kelsey decorated with a Betsy Ross Flag the graves of Flagler Chapter 1984 Charter Members Judge H. T. Cook and David Harold Emery.
