A two-vehicle crash at U.S. 1 near Royal Palms Parkway sent a woman to the hospital in a trauma alert and shut down U.S. 1 southbound from Whiteview Parkway shortly after noon today.

Flagler County’s Fire Flight emergency helicopter was requested but couldn’t fly due to weather. The one victim in the crash, a woman officials said was in her early 40s, was transported by ground to Halifax hospital in Daytona Beach. The occupant of the other vehicle was not hurt.

The crash took place at 12:06 p.m. as a red SUV pulled out of Education Way, the road west of Royal Palms on U.S. 1. The woman at the wheel of a tan Chevy Tahoe was driving south on U.S. 1. It appears that one of the drivers violated the other’s right of way: which of the drivers did so isn’t yet clear. The red SUV t-boned the Tahoe. The Tahoe overturned and ended on its roof about 35 yards south of the impact zone, in the grass on the west shoulder. The driver of the Tahoe was at least partially ejected from the vehicle.

Rescuers from the Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue treated the driver of the Tahoe before transport to Daytona Beach. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office and the Bunnell Police Department were at the scene. The investigation was turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Palm Coast Fire Police regulated traffic.

Roger’s Towing, the Bunnell tower, was clearing the scene of the two vehicles. The highway was expected to be re-opened shortly after 1 p.m.

Im sorry but drivers around here are rude, selfish and have no respect for each other. As soon as you get on the road its something else.

No third party witnesses or videos of the accident? I have HD dash cams it all of my vehicles including my motorcycle. There are WAY too many terrible drivers in this state to NOT have any video protection of any accident whether I am involved or not.

    I hope everyone recovers quickly.

Over the past several weeks I have seen several close calls from drivers not yielding right of ways. It’s getting really bad at the 4 way stop on Palm Harbor and Clubhouse Drive. Some folks just role right thru that one.

Red lights and stop signs are not suggestions. You need to come to a COMPLETE STOP before going straight or turning. And that includes RIGHT ON RED. Laying on your horn when someone stops doesn’t solve anything. The light at Cypress Point and Palm Coast Parkway is notorious for that.

Courtesy and respect goes a long way making our roads safe.

Lastly I understand that cell phone usage wasn’t mentioned here BUT..

I drive a lot for my job and over the last 2 days in heavy rain I have seen many drivers on their phone. Two drivers texting nearly hit each other. You speed up you slow down you speed up then have to slam on the breaks. Or make turns last minute with no warning.

My company long ago instituted a no cell phone policy while driving. Voice calls only when safety permits. I myself don’t even bother since I can’t see the screen half the time. If you cause an accident and cell phone use is a cause you can be fired on the spot. Trust me when I tell you as a former LEO and FF/EMT those calls can wait.

Unless it’s an emergency those phones and devices can wait !!

Concerned Citizen – THANK YOU. Finally, someone who makes sense. US 1 is a nightmare to drive on. Drivers are going over 85 MPH. The other idiots are just pulling out of side roads in front of cars and then slowing down. Drivers are just distracted and are killing themselves and/or others. US 1 is a wide open road and there is NO reason for an accident. Drive defensively and most importantly turn the GD phone off.

Whichever one was at fault for violating the others right of way… that Tahoe , from what I see, was impacted at a high speed. I am sure speed was a factor here. People here speed as if US 1 is the expressway. At 80mph even 85 I have seen, and even at 85 people tailgate you not to mention that when they get mad from tailgaiting you, they get right in front of you and hit the brakes, so you crash into them. The Police Department or whoever should seriously look into this as Palm Coast is growing. Take all measures to make our roads safer. Have more undercover police in this area, even aircraft patrolling if needed. These measures are needed to to save lives.

We can control stopping at the stop signs. We can control cell phone use. We can control speeding. We do not control these things, look what happen. I do not know what happen to cause this accident but something they could control h r did not look at the result. We also control seatbelt use, we neglect the life saving things we can control. We can’t control nature. Slow down when we need to. I hope the victims will be o.k.

Remove that light and put a roundabout in its place, maybe that will solve it. Perhaps a roundabout and a pedestrian bridge over US1 is a better idea.

I like C’mon man’s suggestion – install a roundabout and get rid of the light. They are proven to be safer with less accidents and fatalities.

I am not a fan of traffic circles even when then are given a fancy name of roundabout. Watching most people in this area as they go through a circle/roundabout it is clear they do not know how to use them. If this is going to solve all our problems perhaps the state/county/city could provide some train/education on how to drive through a circle.

However, I believe a greater problem in Flagler county is speed and lack of courtesy. I drive at most 5 miles and hour above the speed limit. There seem to a car constantly tailgating, tring to push me go speed. Other cars using 100, Belle Terre and most roads in the area as a Slalom course, weaving in and out of traffic. I feel that I have to apply grease on the bumpers of my car. I would love to see the sheriff put speed higher on the list of activities for enforcement.
