Flagler Beach Mayor Linda Provencher and the city commission hosted another Kids’ Town Hall in board chambers Tuesday evening, 13 months after the first of its kind. Ellen Asher of Old Kings Elementary brought her problem solving students again from the school, says Carla Cline. ‘They spoke mainly about reducing single use plastic and alleviating the use of straws,’ Cline said. ‘We had a surprise donation from a local company of reusable glass straws to give all the kids who attended. It was fantastic. They were tasked with trying to get Publix to carry more environmentally friendly drink cups and also asking local Flagler Beach restaurants to use more sustainable take out options.’ (© Carla Cline for FlaglerLive)

“Religions like “Mormonism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism” lead people “to an eternity of separation from God in Hell,” Robert Jeffress, a Dallas megachurch pastor, once said. He was chosen to give the opening prayer at the embassy ceremony. John Hagee, one of America’s most prominent end-times preachers, once said that Hitler was sent by God to drive the Jews to their ancestral homeland. He gave the closing benediction. This spectacle, geared toward Donald Trump’s Christian American base, coincided with a massacre about 40 miles away. […] In clashes on Monday, at least 58 Palestinians were killed and thousands wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.”

–Michelle Goldberg, from “A Grotesque Spectacle in Jerusalem,” a May 14, 2018 column in The New York Times.

For the last two years our ferry service and dock system at Fort Matanzas were severely damaged, first by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, and again in September 2017 by Hurricane Irma. Repairs to both ferry boats and dock system have recently been completed, inspected, and service to the fort is resuming. We appreciate the patience and good will we received from our visitors who often travel great distances to visit St. Augustine and Fort Matanzas National Monument. (Wednesday, 8:30 a.m., Edge Hotel, 505 South Gulfview Blvd., Clearwater Beach.)

BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETS IN PINELLAS: The State Board of Education will meet and consider a series of issues, including the designation of KIPP New Jersey and Democracy Prep Public Schools as “hope operators.” That designation is part of a 2017 law expected to lead to new charter schools serving children who attend low-performing traditional public schools. (Wednesday, 9 a.m., Pinellas County School Board office, 301 Fourth St. S.W., Largo.)

CITRUS ISSUES ON THE TABLE: The Florida Citrus Commission will meet in Polk County. (Wednesday, 9 a.m., Florida Department of Citrus, 605 East Main St., Bartow.)

JUDGE HEARS MEDICAL MARIJUANA CASE: Leon County Circuit Judge Karen Gievers is slated to hear arguments in a lawsuit challenging a state ban on smoking medical marijuana. Lawmakers included the ban in a law that was designed to carry out a 2016 constitutional amendment that broadly legalized medical cannabis. The challenge argues that the ban on smoking marijuana violates the constitutional amendment. (Wednesday, 10 a.m., Leon County Courthouse, 301 South Monroe St., Tallahassee.)

Democrats beef up elections complaint against Rick Scott
The Scott campaign has brushed off the allegations as a smear campaign

    By Adam C. Smith

A Democratic group accusing Rick Scott of illegally relying on a Super PAC to prepare for his U.S. Senate campaign has amended its complaint with what it says is more evidence of illegal overlap between the Scott campaign and the New Republican PAC Scott until recently led.

“As if there wasn’t already enough evidence that Rick Scott has been breaking election law, a wave of new examples have surface in the several days. The amount of shady political tricks Scott will employ to advance his own political agenda is striking – and larger symbol for his tenure as governor,” said Adam Bozzi, communications director for End Citizens United. “In light of this new information, the FEC should investigate Scott immediately. Florida deserves better.”
