A special needs Flagler County school bus was involved in a minor collision at Rymfire Drive and Rickenbacker Drive in Palm Coast just after 9 this morning. No one was injured.
There were nine special needs students aboard the bus, which was on its way to Belle Terre Elementary. Because of their special needs status, a Flagler County Fire Rescue unit was dispatched to the scene to check out the students as a precaution. But there were “no injuries on our bus,” district spokesman Jason Wheeler said.
There were no injuries to the driver of the vehicle that struck the bus, either, sheriff’s spokesperson Brittany Kershaw said. The crash took place at 9:04 a.m.
School administrators are at the scene and parents of the students are being contacted. In similar situations in the past, the students would be transferred to another bus and taken to school after being checked out, unless a parent requests to claim their child.
A school bus was last involved in a wreck last February, when a pick-up truck rear-ended a bus carrying 40 students in Palm Coast’s LL section. Aside from one student who complained of neck pain and was claimed by his parent, there were no injuries in that crash either.

@mark101 I have a sister and 2 brothers that ride the bus involved. The boys are non-verbal and speak very little, only 1-2 words at a time. My sister rides with them almost for security. She said the car that hit them backed into the bus (tell me how you manage to pull that one off).
My siblings are okay and we brought the youngest of them home as a safety precaution.
