For Flagler County, it’s turned into a grim weekend in the run-up to Independence Day. A third person was killed in two days on Flagler Roads late Saturday night when a motorcyclist died in a single motorcycle crash on State Road 11, at the same curve that caused a crash resulting in critical injuries five years ago.

Last night’s crash took place at 11 p.m. The motorcyclist’s name has not been released, pending next-of-kin notification. He or she had a passenger, Leslie Esteves Ramos, 32, of Titusville, who was airlifted by Trauma One to Halifax hospital in Daytona Beach, in critical condition.

“She is fighting for her life. My heart goes out to her mother and son,” a former colleague who’;d worked with her at a Titusville 7-Eleven wrote on Facebook a few hours ago.

The motorcyclist was driving south on State Road 11 just south of County Road 135, south of Cody’s Corner, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist lost control at the curve, and both the motorcyclist and Ramos fell from the 2001 Suzuki GSX before the motorcycle struck the guardrail. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flagler County Fire Rescue and the Palm Coast Fire Police, which was at the scene until early this morning, responded along with FHP. The traffic homicide investigation is being conducted by FHP’s Brian Timmons.

Earlier the same afternoon, a man lost his life in a t-bone crash at the intersection of Belle Terre Parkway and Central Avenue in Palm Coast, near Publix. FHP has yet to release the man’s identity. And the night before, a pedestrian crossing I-95, Douglas Reynolds, 49, was killed by a passing car. The total number of road fatalities so far this year on Flagler roads has climbed to at least 25.

that makes the 20th fatality crash in Flagler this year. i pray we are not on track to exceed the horrific record setting year of 2008 of 31 fatal crashes/

  2. Richard Smith says:

I almost killed myself on my motorcycle while taking a curve way TOO fast. Speed kills! I pray that the passenger will fully recover from this tragedy as she had no say or input as to what happened and what happened to her. It was totally up to the driver of the motorcycle and they paid for with their life.

  3. Richard Smith says:

At the going rate, the 2008 record will be broken by October or November.

  4. woodchuck says:

How can we not set a record?Today make a right with a green arrow on the outside turn lane on to P.C.PWY from Old Kings when the car on the inside turn immediately went into my lane I blew my horn. His response was F-you.With a-holes like this it’s inevitable.

  5. Mark101 says:

I wondering if the motorcycle driver was “speeding”. That bike, 98hp to 160 hp has a top speed of 154.

I sure wish people would just take their time, think while they drive.

Condolences to the family and hopes Ramos recovers.

  6. omg says:

Woodchuck, it truly amazes me how drivers think they are entitled to utilize 2 lanes when making any turn at an intersection. Especially the 2 lane turns

I have almost been hit myself at many intersection with the double turn lane. Either

  7. Angela says:

The driver was my best friend I went to the crash site a few days later .I’m heart broken . He was a family man and leaves behind 3 awesome children I drove the road over and over that day just to see how could this have happened even if ispeed Was a factor which we will never know the turn wasn’t a tight one … I wonder.. I feel he seen something in the road and tried to avoid it that would be the only thing that would make sense I’m so heart broken and so is everyone who knows him please pray for the family

  8. Wes says:

He was speeding, we were doing 55 on that road when he blew by us. We were the second car to arrive when he lost control. I also ride and try to avoid riding at night. My wife didn’t get out of the truck, very graphic scene, as I walked around to see if help was needed. Hope she survives!

  9. Leslie Ramos says:

Thank you guys so much this means the world to me that I have strangers that we’re praying for me and it works I’m in chronic pain but I still have my life and I’m very thankful may God bless all of you thank you
