A 45-year-old woman driving the Jeep, which was t-boned by a pick-up truck, died at the hospital within the hour of the crash Wednesday evening at Whiteview Parkway and U.S. 1. (Palm Coast Fire Department)

A 45-year-old Palm Coast woman was killed Wednesday evening in a t-bone crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Whiteview Parkway.

The woman was at the wheel of a grey Jeep SUV. She’d been traveling south on U.S. 1 and and had stopped at a red light before turning left, or east, onto Whiteview. She did so, violating the right of way of an oncoming pick-up truck that was traveling north on U.S. 1, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The Ford pick-up crashed into the passenger side of the Jeep, sending it spinning until it came to a final stop on the right shoulder of the highway, facing north.

The crash was reported at 7 p.m. The woman at the wheel of the Jeep was severely injured at the scene. Flagler County FireFlight, the emergency helicopter, launched to pick up the patient, but was then cancelled as paramedics opted to transport the patient by ground to AdventHealth Palm Coast, suggesting she was not in condition to be flown or transported to Daytona Beach’s trauma center. The woman died at the hospital. (An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that she had been transported to Halifax hospital.)

The front of the pick-up truck was severely damaged and its three occupants–a 44-year-old woman, who was driving, a 13-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man, all from Palm Coast–sustained minor injuries and were transported to AdventHospital Palm Coast. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts. The air bag in the Jeep deployed.

The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue responded, as did the Sheriff’s Office and FHPO, which is conducting the traffic homicide investigation. Names of those involved have not been released. John’s Towing, the Bunnell wrecker, removed the vehicles.

The crash resulted in the 15th fatality of the year on Flagler roads, the 16th when the death of a 15-year-old pedestrian struck by a car on State Road A1A is included. A 32-year-old woman was killed in a t-bone crash at Cody’s Corner on State Road 11 just nine days before. After falling significantly in the last few years, the rate of road fatalities this year, not yet at the halfway mark, is on pace to equal that of 2017, when 33 people were killed on Flagler County roads, the worst year on record.

Why was the air lift cancelled ?
Prayers to all involved in this horrible accident. May she RIP

I wonder how fast that pickup truck was going? Judging by the damage, I’d say that it was going significantly faster than the 60 limit on that street. Perhaps some speed cameras on US1 might call back people to reasonable speeds.

R.S. : You are absolutely 150 % right! A quieter than normal traffic flow road and so many fatalities on that road, something not right or a combo of things wrong. People driving too fast is a major issue I see it everyday on the Belle Terre speedway especially the area off of 100 going west on Belle Terre where you have a one way 2 lane traffic flow and people going 70m-80 mph in their work trucks, one has to put their turning light on a mile ahead in order to make a turn into their section because of careless poor quality drivers tailing you. Even if someone is not in the right people make mistakes if people drive safe with the watch out for the other guy attitude sure there will be less accidents and fatalities, if one depends on the other driver to do the right thing you’re putting your life in their hands, what is needed is some speed traps with high fines in these places. My condolences to the victim and family.

The paramedics and Fire followed protocol, An unstable patient goes to the nearest facility, is stabilized and then is flown to trauma center. This patient was deemed unstable for air transport, as stated in the article.

I remember when there was no traffic light at that intersection when a death occurred. Then the peanut gallery chatted something must be done we need a traffic signal there to save lives well now a speed camera? Would a sheriff posted there make you feel better? another round about? How about this learn how to drive, use common sense, use a turn signal or better yet take the bus.

Blame it on the pickup and not the idiot who cut into its path !!!!!

Speed on US 1 is ridiculous. Turning into traffic is also ridiculous. This is an accident that did not need to happen. These days, everyone is in such a hurry to get nowhere. May this young woman rest in peace. I have a daughter her age and I can’t imagine the pain her family is going through. The sad thing is that NO ONE ever learns from these tragedies.

Hey the state is so fond of roudabouts, lets put in another dumb ass one at that intersection. Everyone is such a damn hurry, need to look right and left twice befor pulling out. Sorry for the loss, nobody needs to loose a loved one .

The article seems to be describing the situation incorrectly. We live just 2 minutes from here. The truck must have been gunning through a yellow light and the woman in the jeep turning left on green. OR the woman in the jeep was turning left on a flashing yield and the truck was speeding enough to hit her on the passenger side fatally. We are hoping for an update from the cameras and police investigation soon. Horrible accident. Our thoughts and prayers out to the mother of 4 who was killed.

Obviously none of you have been at this light, it’s a blinking yellow light when it is green going both ways, no stop sign just caution when turning, I take this turn 5 nights a week coming home from work for over 8 years now.It is more dangerous now that more people are on the road and you have to be careful.A tragic accident, prayers to both families that have to live with this.

  14. Mark Dallafiora says

    June 9, 2022 at 8:07 pm

That’s what I say. How fast was this truck going? Also when you see something in the road, regardless if it should be there or not, don’t you stop? Like I said how fast was it going? Obviously too fast for it to stop or they just didn’t want to. Based on the ram rack on the front they like pushing things out of the way. I feel horrible for this woman that has died an untimely death and for her family that has to go on without her.

  15. Anna Rae says

Alot of times it just flashes yellow

  16. The Geode says

    June 9, 2022 at 9:54 pm

Does it matter how fast they were going when someone turned into THEIR right of way? I’m sure “t-boning” someone wasn’t included in their daily plans. Why must people insist on placing blame? Sometimes, people make horrible decisions and suffer horrible consequences…

  17. GeeBee says

    June 10, 2022 at 12:13 am

Regardless of how fast the truck was traveling, it’s a real bad idea to turn into oncoming traffic.

  18. Anna Rae says

    June 10, 2022 at 1:32 am

Well the light is usually just flashing yellow

  19. John Stove says

    June 10, 2022 at 7:51 am

Speed of the pickup truck is not the issue…Jeep pulled out in front of it.

Jeep should have waited until it passed but so many people don’t drive defensively….

  20. ULTRA MAGA says

    June 10, 2022 at 9:35 am

Careful driving in Florida is Very Left with on coming Traffic is Very Dangerous! Too many people SPEED on US1, therefore she may have misjudged the truck’s Speed!
Be careful driving and expect NO ONE to yield to you! I have seen too many Red Light Runners, Tail Gagers, and Racing! WHY?

  21. ULTRA MAGA says

    June 10, 2022 at 11:55 am

Also, truck had a lift kit and tires beyond the sides of truck. Both would be illegal in many states! By raising the truck height, all the Safety items designed in the Jeep are completely worthless! Her insurance company should completely review the damage to her vehicle!

  22. Gina Weiss says

    June 10, 2022 at 12:01 pm

Shark: calling out a person who lost their life is not cool as I said people make bad decisions and pay the consequences unfortunately this person lost her life due to a bad decision BUT people do drive much TOO FAST on all our roads across America, it’s a big problem which is why in my comment I said people need to drive more defensively. What’s the damn problem that people have down here with slowing down. I see cars and trucks every day up peoples a**es, people who are going 5-10 mph over the speed limit! And the person who mentioned when someone see’s something ahead don’t they slow down???? The answer is NO , not down here you can forget that because they ‘ are going so fast and are so distracted, I’m sure they also feel horrible that a life was lost.

    June 10, 2022 at 2:18 pm

They life flight my husband and told me that he wasn’t going to make it. He did live for almost 20 years . However it left him disable and with mild brain damaged. It was a drunk drive. My daughter was with him.

  24. Gina Weiss says

    June 10, 2022 at 9:02 pm

Thanks for bringing this to the readers attention. I see alot of these types of jacked up trucks, you are right getting hit with one of those no matter what safety features one has is worthless.

  25. The Geode says

    June 10, 2022 at 10:22 pm

Apparently, you are not a “sports fan” because the jeep was playing offense. It initiated the play and in the pick-up’s defense – there is NO “defense” for a car pulling in front of you unexpectantly at 60 mph. You’ll have just enough time to scream OH! …because the “shit” will come AFTER you’ve plowed into the car

  26. Dave Roskins says

    June 14, 2022 at 9:57 am

speeding?….WRONG!!!………..if that reinforced truck was going any faster than 60, as soo many have suggested, than there would have been a lot less left of that Jeep and the driver would have been dismembered.
