In April 2022, Sheriff Staly joined members of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and FCSO SWAT team to serve a narcotics search warrant in the Mondex area of Flagler County.
During the raid, Sheriff Staly hyper- extended his left knee and has been under a physician’s care since.
When improvements were not occurring, an MRI revealed a 3mm tear in the meniscal cartilage of his left knee. Sheriff Staly is scheduled for out- patient surgery on July 1, 2022, to repair the injury.
“As the community knows, I’m not a Sheriff that sits behind a desk and never will be,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Sometimes injuries occur to Deputy’s enforcing the law, even to the Sheriff. This is a minor outpatient procedure with a quick recovery.”
Sheriff Staly will be placed under anesthesia for a very brief period of time. During this time, Chief of Staff Mark Strobridge will be the Acting Sheriff in the event that a critical incident occurs in Flagler County.

The guy needs to be behind a desk…..
Jimbo99 says
Yep, he needs to realize he isn’t front line starting player for the drug house bust anymore. Turn that over to the new hires and younger officers. A step slower doesn’t end well for the old guys. Play within yourself Staly. As long as the mind is still sharp enough, there’s more game to be played, like any athlete has for a career. It’s not like he’s Joe Biden yet, incoherent babbling & slurred speeches, falling down steps & off a bicycle, Mentoring & coaching is the role going forward maybe ?

Hope all goes well and you recover soon after your surgery sheriff Staly.

Good Luck Sheriff, Knees are a tricky thing, first one starts to bark, then you walk a little differently to avoid the pain, then the other knee starts to complain. Choose a great Dr, get to know him, trust him. My 1st knee replacement lasted only 1 1/2 years. I thought I chose a great Dr only to findout later, he screwed me. I had to have it replaced again, this time Dr Keen, here in Palm Coast put my knee back togeather, it works fine. 1 year later Dr Keen replaced my right knee, out side of some pain, I recovered and can walk.not run but at 69, theres noplace I have to run too! My advise, dont suffer, dont be scared, life is great with no pain!

Is this part of the plan, retire on disability, seems everyone in the public sector does to get a tax free retirement.
Robert Joseph Fortier says
Sure…he hurt himself on purpose for money…Donald J Trump says it all…
Roy Longo says
That statement could not be further from the truth. I know of maybe one or two how went out on disability with legitimate injuries. The other 99% retired on their own accord with taxable benefits, myself included.

He was involved in a raid. I picture him spraying down palmetto bugs
and hyper-extending the limb as he fled a swarm of huge roaches.
He’s having the surgery as an “out-patient.”
This means that the procedure will be conducted in the parking lot.
Yeah, I know—I’m bonkers.
