Just last June Robert Hodoba, 85, a resident of Flagler Beach for more than 20 years, lost his brother Albert in an accident in Pennsylvania. Albert was 89. Two years ago Hodoba and his wife Betty suffered the loss of their 57-year-old daughter Rosemary, who lived with her husband and daughter in Boynton Beach.
Last Tuesday, Robert Hodoba was driving his car on S.R. 100 just under the I-95 bridge when he crashed with another car turning onto the highway’s on-ramp. He was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler, then to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, with critical injuries. On Friday, Hodoba died.
The wreck occurred around 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 as Hodoba was driving Westbound on 100. He ran through a red light and struck a Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by Elsa Rego, 36, of Palm Coast, who had a 15-year-old passenger with her. That car overturned. Rego and the passenger suffered minor injuries.

Rob Tier says
This “Old Man” that’s being talked about as if someone really knew him; if one were a Dr. they would know that Robert Hodoba was a fit 85 year old and had more experience driving than any 15 year old permit kid or a pregnant woman, someone without arms or legs, the person who is a recovering addict, a recovering alcoholic, a adult that is on ADHD or OCD meds, a diabetic or the man who is on his way from dialysis. Probably could think of a few other people with different needs or handicaps. Oh that’s right, we do have all kinds of handicap parking in parking lots and maybe they shouldn’t be allowed to have a license either. Oh and let’s not forget our Veterans who have been in war and have watched there buddy’s die or came home to lose their family by some sort of marital affair and of corse due to the trama should not have a license. Do we let an ex convict get a license? I know that this seems to be going to extremes, but let’s be careful that we are not becomeing the judge and the executioner. I believe that it is important to know all the facts about a person before we say who and who can not get a license and drive, that’s why we call it America in which we stand, a FREE STATE! As we know nothing is free anymore, there is a price that is paid and who are we to take that away. This man’s life was not taken away because of anything else other than it was his turn to come home. Yes and Amen.
