Jaylin M.Tilton, a 20-year-old Bunnell resident, was killed sometime early Thursday morning when her car swerved off Old Kings Road and struck a metal guard rail, a mile east of U.S. 1.
A Florida Highway Patrol homicide investigator at the scene said Tilton, who was driving a Mitsubishi Galant, was traveling north on the two-lane road, in a straight section, when, right at a point where a small driveway to the Pellicer Creek Conservation Area links to Old Kings, Tilton for unknown reasons swerved onto the grass on the east shoulder.
It’s barely 60 feet from the point where Tilton’s car’s tire marks curve onto the grass and show a slight arc–an attempt to get back on the road–before the car struck the end point of the guard rail at full force, suggesting that it was barely a second or two between the time the car left the road and the time it struck the rail. The guard rail is only a few feet from the road.
The car’s front was deeply encrusted into the metal, which it mangled. The exact time of the crash is not known. A young man driving by called 911 to report it at 4:38 a.m. Flagler County Fire Rescue pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Old Kings Road was closed between U.S. 1 and Matanzas Woods Parkway and remained closed until 10 a.m. Thursday as FHP was concluding its investigation at the scene. The medical examiner arrived at the scene at 9:10 a.m., and had removed the victim’s body shortly afterward.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the Palm Coast Fire Department and the Palm Coast Fire Police also responded to the scene. The vehicle was removed by 9:45 a.m. by John’s Towing, the Bunnell wrecker. The identity of the victim will be released following next-of-kin notification.
Another young life wasted. Tragic!

I cannot believe this. I was literally talking to her a few days ago. It’s so hard to accept that she’s gone. She was such a sweet girl and her smile was contagious. I feel blessed to have known her and work with her. Jaylin was gone too soon. Rest in peace, beautiful girl. Heaven just gained an angel.

This is such a heartbreaking tragedy. It’s so unfortunate — regardless of if this happened due to a mistake while driving, texting while driving or any other way it’s still so very heartbreaking. My heart goes out to this young girls family during this very difficult time for them.
What a shame. the car does not look that bad to hve her been killed. Did she have her safety belt on? Perhaps a animal was in the road and she tried to avoid it.

It looks like the airbag killed her or else she was already dead!!!! She didn’t go thru the windshield! Such a tragic accident. My prayers go to her Family and loved ones. May the TRUTH be known. SO heartbreaking.
