Motorcyclist Eddie Davis Jr., 50, was in critical condition after his leg was severed in a wreck involving two motorcycle and a car on U.S. 1 just south of Old Kings Road late Saturday night.
It was the second grave wreck involving a motorcycle on Flagler County roads in eight hours. Earlier Saturday afternoon, motorcyclist Seth Howard Sistrunk, 67, was killed in a collision with a pick-up truck at State Road 100 and County Road 305.
The later wreck took place at 9:45 p.m. Davis, of St. Augustine, was riding a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle. Richard Kenney, a 33-year-old Palm Coast resident, was riding a 2007 Hyosung GT650 motorcycle. Alexis Jacquart, 23, of Palm Coast, was at the wheel of a 2002 Dodge Neon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Kenney had parked his motorcycle on the right shoulder of the road. Davis and his Suzuki had stopped in the right lane of US1’s southbound lanes, parallel to Kenney’s motorcycle. Why Davis had decided to stop there is not yet known.
Jacquart was driving south in the right lane of the highway, behind the Suzuki, which she did not see. She struck the motorcycle, throwing Davis onto the grassy shoulder and catapulting the Suzuki toward the side of Kenney’s motorcycle. Kenney had been standing to the side of his motorcycle, which slammed against him, causing him to fall. The Dodge continued southbound a certain distance then veered off to the right, struck a tree with its right-front side, continued south, and finally came to a stop facing south on the grassy shoulder of US 1.
Davis was initially transported by ground to Halifax. But Air One had been on its way, and landed at U.S. 1 and Palm Coast Parkway–temporarily closing traffic there–to take Davis to Halifax hospital in Daytona Beach.
Kenney sustained minor injuries. He was not taken to a hospital, according to FHP. Jacquart suffered no physical injuries. Davis had been wearing a helmet. Alcohol was not involved. Charges are pending.
U.S. 1 southbound was closed to traffic after the wreck as the Florida Highway Patrol conducted the investigation. The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue responded, as did the Palm Coast Fire Police.

Wishing the motorcyclist a speedy recovery! It is terrible he has lost his leg, but at least he didn’t loose his life! There are way too many vehciles on the roads for motorcycles to get on the roads too. People who drive motor cycles known the risks and accept the risk when they get on a motorcycle. I don’t know what it takes for riders to learn to ride on the roads out west where there isn’t the traffic as in populated areas.
