Grace Community Food Pantry, 245 Education Way, Bunnell, drive-thru open today from noon to 3 p.m. The food pantry is organized by Pastor Charles Silano and Grace Community Food Pantry, a Disaster Relief Agency in Flagler County. Feeding Northeast Florida helps local children and families, seniors and active and retired military members who struggle to put food on the table. Working with local grocery stores, manufacturers, and farms we rescue high-quality food that would normally be wasted and transform it into meals for those in need. The Flagler County School District provides space for much of the food pantry storage and operations. Call 386-586-2653 to help, volunteer or donate.

Notebook: In 1850, the United States under the mostly forgotten filth of Willard Filmore’s signature enacted the Fugitive Slave Act, which the journalist Neil King Jr. called “so grotesque” in his American Ramble (2023): “Because with the passage of that law, even though you had crossed over that line into the land of the free and had gone hundreds of miles north of it, maybe even all the way to Maine, you could still be captured by federal marshals and put in manacles and dragged back to the other side. Even though you were now in the free states, the federal government was now charged with enforcing the laws that enslaved you in the South. The government had declared a section of the country free, but then muddied that declaration and made it moot.” Tell me, exactly, the difference between roundups under the Fugitive Slave Act then and ICE roundups now?

I told myself it was just a tool, a vast machine, and the machine was blind. But I had not fully realized its crushing weight and power. That was insane. The machine cannot be challenged. It both creates and blots out, doing each with glacial impersonality. It measures people in the same way that it measures money, and the growth of trees, the life-span of mosquitoes and morals, the advance of time. And when the hour strikes, on the big clock, that is indeed the hour, the day, the correct time. When it says a man is right, he is right, and when it finds him wrong, he is through, with no appeal. It is as deaf as it is blind.
–From Kenneth Fearing’s The Big Clock (1946)..
Dennis C Rathsam says
Biden didn’t have the balls to do it….Obama didn’t have any….But now we have a real president, sharp as a tack, crazy like a fox! Look at all the world leaders, especially in the Middle East, thanking Isreal, & TRUMP for wiping out IRAN. A great military plan, with no Americans being harmed! Putin & Xi, got little sleep last night, they cant believe the bombs we have, with a president ready to use them. The Iranians will think twice now before giving the middle finger to TRUMP! He tryed over & over for a PEACEFULL deal. He did his best, Iran wanted no part of peace, so sad, so many lives could have been saved! They got what they asked for. Even more! GLORY GLORY HALLELUA, AMERICA, THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH! TRUMP now cements him, being one of the greatest American presidents in history. I’ve told you all many many times before, as you bash TRUMP, call him names, try to murder him, try to put him in jail….Youre all fools, as TRUMP is now the bell of the ball! The leader of the free world. Thanx Mr President I knew you wouldn’t let me down!
Laurel says
Did you get duped by a *peacetime President*?
Marek says
Yeah, draft dodger as a Commander in Chief.
The dude says
I see the chairborne 101st is all excited this morning.
First there was talk of “mushroom clouds”, then “regime change”, now it moves on to “we’ll be greeted like liberators”… I feel like we’ve seen this movie before…
Now comes the part where we expend life and treasure to protect the shipping lanes. As with everything he does Corporal Bone Spurs didn’t think this through and/or ignored those that do, all in order to appear “tough” to the olds that cheer for him, like our beloved Dennis.
Marek says
Dennis , you need a cold shower and switch to decaf .
