The Flagler County Commission meets at 5 p.m. in board chambers at the Government Services Building, Bunnell. It’ll mark Drug Court month, and it is expected to approve a $284,475 contract for website design and maintenance for the county’s tourism division. You read right: $284,475. Commissioners are also expected to approve an ordinance that will allow the county to collect its own tourist tax, and approve an ordinance recognizing the right of customary use of beaches in front of private property. Commissioner will also ratify a further step in the $14 million emergency communications plan.
The African American Entrepreneurs Club holds a “Business and Book Marketing Made EZ” workshop at 6 p.m. at
the African American Cultural Society, 4422 N. US HWY 1, Palm Coast (just north of Whiteview Parkway). The guest speaker is author Melanie Bonia. The cost is $10 for members, $20 for guests, $5 for students with ID. Click on the image for larger view of the workshop flier.
The Flagler County Stamp and Coin Club meets at 4:30 p.m. at the VFW Post 8696 47 N. Old Kings Road. From 4:30 – 6 p.m. the time is used for buying, selling and trading stamps and coins. The club meeting starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 7:30. There is a live auction of stamps and coins at the end of the meeting. The club is open for members, the general public, and all who are interested in stamp and coin collecting and investing. Free stamps and coin evaluations at all our meetings. Ferry Service Resumes at Fort Matanzas: The National Park Service is pleased to announce that our ferry to Fort Matanzas National Monument will officially resume service on May 14th at 9:30am. For the last two years our ferry service and dock system at Fort Matanzas were severely damaged, first by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, and again in September 2017 by Hurricane Irma. Repairs to both ferry boats and dock system have recently been completed, inspected, and service to the fort is resuming. We appreciate the patience and good will we received from our visitors who often travel great distances to visit St. Augustine and Fort Matanzas National Monument. We look forward to your next visit with us.

CHILD ABUSE DEATHS TARGETED: The state Child Abuse Death Review Committee, which works to prevent child-abuse deaths in Florida, will meet. (Monday, 9 a.m., Embassy Suites USF, 3705 Spectrum Blvd., Tampa.)
JUDGE HEARS NURSING HOME RECORDS DISPUTE: Leon County Circuit Judge Terry Lewis will hold a hearing on arguments by attorneys for an embattled Broward County nursing home that the Florida Department of Health should be held in contempt in a public-records dispute. The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills is seeking copies of death certificates for people across the state from Sept. 9 through Sept. 16 — a week-long period that included Hurricane Irma and its immediate aftermath. Lewis ruled that the nursing home is entitled to the records, but The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills contends the Department of Health has not properly complied with Lewis’ order. The nursing home and department have been locked in legal battles after residents of the nursing home died following Irma. (Monday, 11 a.m., Leon County Courthouse, 301 South Monroe St., Tallahassee.)
‘POOR PEOPLE’S CAMPAIGN’ MARCHES TO CAPITOL: In conjunction with similar efforts in other states, the Florida Poor People’s Campaign will hold a march to the Capitol and a news conference to discuss systemic racism. (Monday, march starts at 12:30 p.m. at Florida People’s Advocacy Center, 603 North Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tallahassee. Also, news conference at 2 p.m., first-floor rotunda, the Capitol.)
OPIOID ADDICTION AT ISSUE: UF HealthStreet will host an “Our Community, Our Health ” town-hall meeting to discuss the use of medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction. (Monday, 6 p.m., UF HealthStreet, 2401 S.W. Archer Road, Gainesville.)
