23-Year-Old Is Victim of 2nd Shooting in 24 Hours in Flagler During Espanola Party

In a 24-hour period in Flagler County, one 19 year old shot another and was charged with attempted murder, a driver ran over the foot of a deputy with his car at a traffic stop and fled (he turned himself in the next day), and in an incident that garnered less attention, in the early hours of Sunday, a 23-year-old man was shot at Espanola Community Center, in the midst of a large gathering there. No charges have been filed in that shooting, as no suspect has been found.

Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to the shooting after receiving a call from Florida Hospital Flagler, where Jean Geral Isenader, 23, of Sergeant Court in Palm Coast, was reported to have an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. It is not clear how Isenader got to the hospital.

Deputies responded to the area of Espanola Park at 3570 County Road 205 in west Bunnell at about 1:30 a.m. on June 25. There were still 50 to 100 vehicles in the park and people walking about, according to a deputy’s report. That’s unusual, in the aftermath of a shooting, which may suggest that if the shooting took place there, many people had not heard it. That’s also possible, given that the crowd was also setting off fireworks. But seeing law enforcement, several vehicles left the area as did people “prior to containment” according to the report.

Several units of the Sheriff’s Office and the Bunnell Police Department set up “containment” at the park. The names of all occupants and license plate numbers of all vehicles were collected before people were allowed to leave.

“After the park was cleared of all vehicles and pedestrian traffic, a skirmish line search was conducted” in various parts of the park, the report notes, “for any shell casings or signs of blood. The search yielded negative results.”

Before he was airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Isenader told a sheriff’s corporal who spoke to him at the hospital that “the shooting took place at approximately a 45 degree angle off the door at the community center,” the report notes. But “the community center has a door on both the one side and the four side and it was unclear which door the victim was referring to. Upon checking the area, it was discovered that the door on the four side of the building had its handle removed. It also appears that several of the occupants of the party made entry into the building,” which would be a burglary.

DNA swabs were collected from the exterior door where the handle was missing. No other items of evidentiary value were located or collected. Flagler County Parks and Recreation arrived and estimated the damage to the door at $500.00. The door was repaired that night.

Later that morning, a county employee cleaning the center reported to a deputy that “while cleaning up the field area slightly northwest of the community center,” a separate incident report states, “he kicked a metal object in the grass while walking.” It was the magazine of a pistol. “The magazine is a 45 ACP caliber silver magazine, which holds 8 rounds and was manufactured by Wilson Combat. The magazine had 8 rounds of 45 ACP caliber bullets in it,” the report states. “It is unknown at this time if the magazine is related to the incident.”

The magazine was placed into evidence. Further reports, including details of the conversation between deputies and Isenader, were not made available, as the investigation is continuing.

Isenader was among a number of witnesses deputies interviewed in 2012 following a triple-stabbing at the Hammock Community Center.
