Elmer Leroy Goostree, a 43-year-old resident of old Moody Blvd. on Bunnell, is in critical condition at Halifax hospital today following a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 1 early this morning.
Goostree was traveling south on U.S. 1, not far past State Road 100 in Bunnell, when he ran off the road, on a curve, “for reasons unknown,” according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Goostree overcorrrected, resulting in his 1995 Plymouth van crossing both lanes of US1 south before running off the road to the right.
The Plymouth then struck the wood-line with its front bumper. The van overturned and came to a final rest on its left side, on the outside shoulder of the road. Flagler County Fire Rescue had to extricate Goostree from the vehicle before he was placed on a helicopter and flown to Halifax. He was not wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said.
Authorities had not yet finished clearing a four-vehicle wreck earlier in the morning on I-95 when the call about the US1 wreck came through.
Twice in the last four years, Goostree was booked at the Flagler County jail for drunk driving.

Does anyone have a reason for all of these horrible wrecks of late? Just seems like there should be some sort of answer. It used to be that these wrecks happened down by U,S, 1 Interchange, but now its right here. Why?
Dadgum says
Speeding, drunken or impaired driving, texting, reckless driving, not paying attention to the road, talking on the phone, unsafe or faulty vehicle (ie, bald tires), weather conditions, just to name a few.

Everybody is in a hurry to go nowhere – that’s why. People aren’t cautious, and thumb their noses at speed limit signs (and while they’re on the cell phone).
I’m not speaking of Mr. Goostree – I hope he’s OK.
His past DUI convictions are of concern, though.
Get well soon Elmer Goostree.
I'm glad I left PC says
Seems like past history rears its ugly head again, hope he is ok and gets the help he needs.

For those who urge everyone to slow down, I’ve slowed down, but increased my insurance claims literally on being rear-ended a handful of times… riding in the right lane, being at the speed limit. Good advice, but in real life it’s not paying off for this child of God. I haven’t been cited for being at fault, fortunately. I don’t think my back will ever be the same from it. Your mileage may vary.

I had a couple one in a blue mini van and another in a silver toyota tacoma try and get me to run into the back of her van , I was heading to work at 7am on US1, I was in right lane the van passed me then got in front of me , then for no reason at all, jammed on the brakes, I went to the left lane cause I wasn`t stopping in time , but the tocoma sped up laying on the horn so I couldn` t get in, so I went to the grass , it was wet from morning dew were doing 60 65 miles an hr , grass was like ice couldn t steer or stop, I hit a tree and flipped and rolled and ended up on my drivers side door, hurt like hell , I was pissed , I undid my seat belt climbed up to the passenger side door , threw it open climbed up and out , then jumped down , had broken ribs, my head busted open and glass in my elbow from my drivers side window shattering on it. The van and the pick up kept going. never stopped, I`m writing this to say I`m sorry to the woman who did stop , she was trying to help me , get me to sit down till ambulance got there , but I`d just dumped alot of money in my truck and it was totalled. and these two scammers almost killed me. I was calling work to let them know I wouldn t be in, and calling g/f to tell her I`d been in a wreck , the concerned woman was still trying to get me to sit down , I barked at her to stop , If you are reading this maam , I`m very sorry I barked at you, and want to thank you for stopping and helping me.
A few weeks later driving my company truck ,I saw that same van was rear ended on US1 up by Palm Coast Parkway, It didn t click that that was the same van , and the toyota might have been there too, I had a delivery that was being waited on or else I`d of gone back, thats when I realized what these two were doing , I saw them every morning for a week on Whiteview and US1 , I figured they were just more people heading to work , but after the accident , but after the accident , I never saw them driving to work again , so be careful out there and wear your seat belts, I would not be alive had I not been wearing mine that morning
