The Florida Highway Patrol and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a hit and run of a pedestrian woman found dead in a ditch near Plantation Bay, off of U.S. 1, this morning (Nov. 26).
There were indications of a vehicle crash at the scene, including some vehicle debris, but no vehicle. The incident was reported to authorities around 9:30 a.m. in the area of U.S. 1 and Eagle Rock Road, not far from the Flagler-Volusia county line.
An emergency helicopter was placed on standby after the incident was reported, but soon after cancelled as the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, and FHP called in.
The investigation is ongoing at the scene, where traffic was restricted. As of 10 this morning, both northbound lanes were blocked. One of the two southbound lanes was closed.
Authorities were expected to analyze license plate readers and other available surveillance video to reconstruct the scene leading up to the incident or narrow down a search for vehicles.
Late Saturday, FHP reported that hit and run vehicle is a 2016 to 2018 model Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pick-up truck, dark
metallic gray/blue color. The pick-up truck should have heavy left front damage to the headlight assembly and the left fender area. Anyone with any information regarding this hit and run crash is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at *FHP (*347) or 904-359-6572.

Rainy & foggy at times last night. US-1 isn’t exactly a well lighted road there. Motorist needs to stick around, Might be some DL & Insurance or registration issues with that ? There’s always being impaired too ? Impaired might even apply to the pedestrian.

What type of cretin would hit someone then not stop to see if they could lend assistance? If debris was on scene it will not take long to determine what make/model of car was involved.

I wonder if it was the woman who is always sitting in the road on us1 in the mornings, south bound though. She always has an oxygen tank, and literally sits on the line. I’ve seen her almost get hit numerous times. Fcso has been sent to check on her before. She was gone a week or two, then reappeared in the same area every morning sitting on the line. Dump trucks pulling out of the side road literally have to avoid hitting her. I am curious if it is the same lady?

So very sad that these deadly hit and run collisions keep happening. In this case, I am even more surprised that FHP has indicated the hit and run vehicle will have heavy damage to the LEFT front fender area. Usually the damage is on the right side, so this information tells me that the vehicle either somehow ran completely off of the paved portion of U.S. 1 into the shoulder or grassy area to strike the pedestrian, or the pedestrian was walking in the roadway when hit by the vehicle. Either way, the driver had a moral and legal obligation to stop. When they catch this person, I’m looking forward to hearing he or she will be locked up pending trial for what they did.

This is tragic. It sounds as though she might have been suicidal.
