Alyce Whitman, a 63-year-old resident of Crescent City, was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of County Road 304 and County Road 305 at the southwest end of Flagler County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Whitman was driving a 2012 Honda CRV west on 304, which dead-ends at at T-intersection with 305, with a stop sign on 304.
Enrique Garduno, 61, of Wauchula, was driving a 2002 Ford van, heading north on 305. “For reason(s) unknown,” FHP reports, Whitman pulled out in the path of the Ford, which had the right of way. The front of Garduno’s Ford struck the driver’s side of Whitman’s Honda, sending both vehicles against the guardrail.
The wreck took place just after 4:30 p.m. Initially Whitman was reported to have a faint pulse and two emergency helicopters were placed on stand-by–Volusia’s Air One and St. Johns County’s Trauma One. (Flagler County’s FireFlight remains grounded for servicing, as it’s been for several weeks.) But minutes later when medics arrived at the scene, Whitman was pronounced dead.
Garduno sustained minor injuries. At 7:30 p.m., the highway patrol called for another rescue unit to report to the scene to conduct a blood draw. It took that long likely because police are now required to secure a warrant before conducting a blood draw following a crash.
The preliminary crash report states that the crash was not alcohol related as far as Garduno was concerned, but it listed Whitman’s alcohol status as “unknown.” It also lists charges as pending. The crash investigator was FHP Cpl. Kelvin Vega, the homicide investigator was FHP Cpl. Steven Coppola.

Prayers to the Family. How Horrific.

There is a stop sign there at the end of 304 before you get to 305. It is always terrible when one loses their life in event as this. Prayers go out to this woman’s family.
