The City of Palm Coast’s Information Technology Director Doug Akins recently completed the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government’s Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) program. Director Akins is one of only 245 certified professionals in the state.
“I took on this certification program because technology is advancing at a rapid pace and we want to keep the City of Palm Coast on the forefront of the latest innovations,” Director Akins said. “This designation will help to not only keep up with the changes, but also to understand the implications, challenges, and opportunities that these changes bring. The field of technology demands continual learning and advancement of skills.”
The CGCIO program is designed to give participants the skills and knowledge to address organization, governance, management, and strategic planning issues from the executive leadership perspective. The goal of this twelve-month program is to provide public sector and non-profit technology professionals with educational networking and collaboration experiences that will enhance their ability to serve as leaders in their communities and in the state.
“Doug has been a great asset to the City of Palm Coast for over 17 years, and we’re so proud of this new achievement,” City Manager Denise Bevan said. “Technology is an essential function of City Government and I have confidence in Doug standing at the helm. Adding this high-quality certification to his professional development will only enhance his leadership abilities and help create a solid plan for the City’s future technology needs.”
Akins has been with the City of Palm Coast since 2005, serving initially as a Senior Applications Analyst. Akins was promoted to Director of Information Technology (IT) in 2019. The IT Department serves a multitude of functions within the city government including technical support, research and development, geographic information systems (GIS), broadband, cybersecurity, help desk, and more.

As a mother of a strategic military retiree when he presented his concerns on lack of protection to our environments- several years back and is a expert in critical environments/ so glad we are starting to be aware we are definitely not protected te from all types of harmful interactions- at the time our community didn’t even understand the conversation/

not meaning to steal any of Doug’s accolades did want to mention that while living in Palm Coast had a meeting with Doug and one other top staff whose name I can’t remember regarding the inherent health dangers of 5-G military-grade EMF and gave them a thumb drive of some forty experts testifying to its dangers. And basically being told they had heard it all before and thank you for my time. And since that time, I have heard nothing regarding the matter, other than Palm Coast choosing Fiber Optics over 5-G, which is a wise decision in my opinion. My point being it would have been nice to at least get some feedback from my meeting and hope that in the future, Doug does provide it, as it is just not enough to listen and leave hanging in the dark, citizens concerns such as mine. Just a suggestion.

Joe – As you are probably aware the City of Palm Coast is planning on putting up a 5G Cell Tower at
7 Clubhouse Drive which will directly affect the health & well-being & the property values of about 200 residences. This will also affect pets & wildlife health & the environment as a whole. They are planning on building the first of many of these towers in one of the original neighborhoods in Palm Coast, next to a nursing home & a block from a playground & nursery school.
Quote from Diamond website:
“Key Attributes of the City of Palm Coast and Diamond Partnership
Hundreds of properties available for wireless infrastructure development”
The partnership, per the website of Diamond Communications, is 100’s of properties available for these DEADLY towers all over Palm Coast.
They don’t care about the huge case won by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. against the FCC. They have not done any
study re: health since approx. 1996 (?) RFK Jr also has numerous studies & qualified experts that say these 5G towers are very dangerous for people & will affect wildlife & bird migration.
Realtors are very clear that real estate values will decrease by 20% +. Approximately 95% of home buyers will not live near a 5G tower – per real estate professionals.
Palm Coast did not ask any residents in the 3 affected communities if there was a problem with phone reception.
There is no such issue.
I would be very interested in discussing your material on your thumb drive.
Thanks, Sam
