Aug. 12 Update: The Flagler County Sheriff said today that foul play was ruled out in the death Thursday of Caitlin Ryone of a gunshot in Daytona North. The sheriff’s office is not yet calling it a suicide, though that may be more a matter of investigative caution and time: “The detectives say they aren’t certain yet. They won’t call it a suicide while their investigation is still active,” a sheriff’s spokesperson said this afternoon. “The implication is that it is not a homicide but they are still conducting interviews in the case.”

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon is investigating a report of a disturbance followed by a gunshot, or gunshots, at 4664 Mahogany Boulevard in Daytona North, also known as the Mondex, west of Bunnell.

Early this evening the sheriff’s office identified the victim as Caitlin Elizabeth Ryone, 19, a 2014 graduate of Flagler Palm Coast High School. It is not clear if it is a suicide or a homicide. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow to determine a preliminary cause of death, the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page just before 7 p.m.

Police were called to the scene after a 2 p.m. report of a disturbance and gunshots. The report of a disturbance involved an argument between a woman and a man at that address, a home owned by the late Adam Ryone. “No details yet” was all that a sheriff’s spokesperson provided in late afternoon.

Ryone, 43 at the time, was killed on State Road 100 on May 16, 2015, when he was riding his motorcycle and a woman driving a car rear-ended him as he was preparing to make a turn onto a private driveway. Caitlin was his only daughter. She made her home at the house at 4664 Mahogany Boulevard, where today’s incident took place. She has two half-sisters and one half-brother in Rhode Island, where Ryone had resettled from.

A man was also in the house, and was reportedly frantic after the shooting. The gun was found next to Ryone. Both the sheriff’s office’s Crime Scene Investigation vans were at the scene this afternoon, along with numerous units of the sheriff’s office, neighbors and bystanders.

So….are we going with gunSHOT or gunshotS?? Because those are entirely different things….especially in the case of a potential suicide. Come on now. And as far as I knew, any type of domestic disturbance, dispute or act of violence REQUIRED responding officials to make an arrest. By law. At the very least, hold/detain the suspect(s) overnight for questioning until they can be without a doubt cleared in any involvement of her murder/suicide. Disgusting.
