The Cold-Weather Shelter known as the Sheltering Tree will open tonight: The shelter opens at Church on the Rock at 2200 North State Street in Bunnell as the overnight temperature is expected to fall to 40 or below. It will open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. The shelter is open to the homeless and to the nearly-homeless: anyone who is struggling to pay a utility bill or lacks heat or shelter and needs a safe, secure place for the night. The shelter will serve dinner and breakfast. Call 386-437-3258, extension 105 for more information. Flagler County Transportation offers free bus rides from pick up points in the county, starting at 3 p.m., at the following locations and times:
- Dollar General at Publix Town Center, 3:30 p.m.
- Near the McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100, 4 p.m.
- Dollar Tree by Carrabba’s and Walmart, 4:30 p.m.
- Palm Coast Main Branch Library, 4:45 p.m.
Also: - Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
- Bunnell Free Clinic, 4:30 p.m.

The shelter is run by volunteers of the Sheltering Tree, a non-profit under the umbrella of the Flagler County Family Assistance Center, is a non-denominational civic organization. Election Day in Flagler Beach. Only one seat is up, that of two-term incumbent Eric Cooley, who is being challenged by Bob Cunningham, who ran last year as well. The mayor’s seat was also up, as Suzie Johnston opted not to run again, but the new mayor, Patty King, was elected without opposition. It is also the final voting day for the Republican presidential primary (there is no Democratic primary), though it is the least consequential presidential primary election of the year. Vote at your own precinct, if you have nothing else to do.
The Flagler County Canvassing Board meets today at noon, at 6 and at 7 p.m. at the Flagler County Supervisor of Elections office, Government Services Building, 1769 East Moody Boulevard, Bunnell. The meeting is open to the public. The board is chaired by County Judge Andrea Totten. This Election Year’s board members are Supervisor of Elections Kaiti Lenhart and County Commissioner Dave Sullivan. The alternates are County Judge Melissa Distler and County Commissioner Donald O’Brien. March-April meetings are for the presidential preference primary, such as it is. Food Truck Tuesdays is presented by the City of Palm Coast on the third Tuesday of every month from March to October. Held at Central Park in Town Center, visitors can enjoy gourmet food served out of trucks from 5 to 8 p.m.–mobile kitchens, canteens and catering trucks that offer up appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Foods to be featured change monthly but have included lobster rolls, Portuguese cuisine, fish and chips, regional American, Latin food, ice cream, barbecue and much more. Many menus are kid-friendly. Proceeds from each Food Truck Tuesday event benefits a local charity.
The Flagler Beach Library Writers’ Club meets at 5 p.m. at the library, 315 South Seventh Street, Flagler Beach.

Notably: Inflation Progress Stalls as Housing Costs Continue to Rise. From Statista: Inflation in the U.S. edged up slightly in February, as rising housing costs continued to put upward pressure on the Consumer Price Index, while an increase in energy prices compared to January also contributed to higher-than-expected overall inflation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 3.2 percent over the last 12 months before seasonal adjustment, up from 3.1 percent in January, which was what economists had expected for February as well. On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.4 percent with the indexes for shelter and gasoline alone accounting for more than 60 percent of the overall increase. Meanwhile core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, came in at 3.8 percent in February, down slightly from 3.9 percent in January and the slowest increase since April 2021. Due to its weight in the Consumer Price Index, the cost of shelter continues to be a major driver of inflation. Rents and owners’ equivalent rents of residences increased 5.8 and 6.0 percent year-over-year in February, respectively, as the index for shelter climbed for the 46th consecutive month. In fact, excluding the impact of shelter, inflation would have stood at 1.8 percent last month, below the Fed’s target level of 2 percent.
