The Flagler County Education Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary On Oct. 22 at the Hammock Dunes Club. The full story of the evening, with four audio clips of songs performed by the Flagler Palm Coast High School’s Formality Ensemble, is here. Below is a video of the foundation’s achievements. Students should be our first priority! says
I am sure the FPC students who performed at this event were the highlight of the evening. I too have had the pleasure of watching many of our Flagler County students perform and I get goose bumps hearing them sing, act, play instuments, and create beautiful art. The irony of all this is that reported here and in other news sources this statement by Janet Valentine was made in reference to the tax continuation, ” Our students will benefit directly by these dollars. Schools will be maintained and equipped, technology kept up to date and high school sports and arts programs will be able to continue.” So if the continuation of the tax does not get voted through the arts programs will not be able to continue or will be cut drastically? If you count the handful of arts teachers employed is such a small amount in a lot of cases, two per elementary school and so on……..This does not add up to big dollars saved. Just alone the student services department employs what eight employees? Why don’t we service our students by spending money where students truly benefit? Companies today say they are looking for creative people because they are the best problem solvers. Does anyone get it?
