The Flagler County School District issued the following caution:
Flagler Schools has been made aware of people going door-to-door in the Palm Coast area, asking for money to help purchase uniforms and supplies for high school sports. Specifically, they say they’re raising money for the Matanzas High School girls basketball and softball teams.
While our schools do conduct various fundraising efforts throughout the year, those efforts are normally done in an organized, group effort. Door to door solicitations strictly for cash are not condoned. We have been in contact with our athletic directors and coaches and no one has authorized or suggested to our student athletes that they take this approach.
We ask if anyone comes to your home soliciting for funds in such a way as this, you politely decline their requests. Our schools and athletic teams as well as clubs conduct legitimate fundraising. If anyone ever has concerns about fundraising efforts, contact the individual schools.
