A signature event for Homecoming 2017, Daytona State College’s second annual 5K Family Fun Walk/Run takes place Saturday, Oct. 21, starting promptly at 8 a.m. from the new soccer stadium.
The campus 5K welcomes everyone to come out and kick off the weekend with an active venture around the Daytona Beach Campus. Participants receive a race t-shirt and finishing medal, while supplies last. Pre-registration is easy online; it’s $30 per person ($35 day of race), students – $15, children under 10 years – FREE. Proceeds benefit student scholarships. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m.
Coordinated by the college’s Administrative Council, the event is made possible with community support from sponsors Follett (DSC’s bookstore), Synergy, Electric Bikes and Dunkin Donuts, who will have their logo on the event t-shirt; additional sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, call (386) 785-2001. Plus, DSC massage-program students will be on hand to give post-run massages at no charge.
For those who aren’t able to participant in the walk/run, they can be a ‘virtual runner’; same cost, t-shirt will be available for pick-up from the college.
The entire extended weekend is packed with activities, open to Daytona State’s thousands of friends and near-70,000 alumni, coordinated by the DSC Alumni & Friends Association. The four-day extravaganza kicks offWednesday, Oct. 18, with Abilities Awareness Day and continues through Saturday, Oct. 21, concluding with a women’s soccer match vs. Polk State College – kick-off at 4 p.m.; most activities are free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be available for purchase throughout Saturday’s activities. For more information, visitDaytonaState.edu/
