Flagler Schools’ Problem Solvers Clean Up Again: The Winners’ Complete List

The Community Problem Solvers state competition was held at Cape Canaveral March 20-23. Thanks to Flagler Palm Coast High School’s Ryan McDermott, we now have a complete list of the district’s many winners, from most of its schools. A star next to the names represents qualifiers for the Future Problem Solvers International Competition in La Crosse, Wis., June 9-12. Last year the team that traveled to La Crosse returned with a record number of prizes.

Global Issues Problem Solving Writing (new formal name for Future Problem Solving Team Competition):

Middle Division:

3rd Place, Flagler Palm Coast High School, Coach Diane Tomko, Team: Olga Nushtayeva, Forrest Mason, Benjamin Jones, Kerry Norberg

*2nd Place, Flagler Palm Coast High School, Coach Diane Tomko, Team: Daniel Gerhard, Michael Safarty, Antonio Holm, Tyler Jarnagin

*1st Place, Belle Terre Elementary School, Coach Ana Fajardo, Team: Riley Lampert, Jesse Lambright, Gene Calina, Briana Rodriguez. (Lambright, Calina and Rodriguez also placed first in the Circus Maximus competition.)

We also had teams place in alternate team writing and presentation of action plans. The award in alternates comes from a team comprised of members from different schools and action plans are based purely on acting rather than writing.

    Kudos to the students, the coaches and the Flagler County School District. Again, proof that we still have a highly rated school district doing their best to educate our children!

    Just a thought! Maybe we might get better results if we turned the economic development issue over to these students.

    Once again Mrs. Tomko does an incredible job!! She has been training winners for quite a few years. I congratulate the students on a great job. I had the pleasure of having my son on one of Mrs. Tomeko’s international winning teams and the experience he had and the knowledge he received from Mrs. Tomko has assisted him in his path of life.
