Shaklyia Chess

Shaklyia Chess, a 16-year-old junior at Flagler Palm Coast High School who lived at Llosee Court in Palm Coast, was killed late Saturday evening in a single-car wreck on U.S. Route 1 just south of Bunnell, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Chess was driving a 1995 Infinity. She was southbound on US1. She veered into the median, near the White Eagle Saloon, then over-corrected, drove onto the west shoulder, spun counterclockwise, and collided with trees. She was not wearing a seat belt.

According to the highway patrol, Chess was the only person in the vehicle. The wreck took place just before midnight on Saturday.

By Sunday morning, tributes were pouring into Chess’s Facebook page. One friend wrote: “i cant believe u are qone ! :( I will never forget the times we had when we was little you taught me how to ride my bike when i was 8 & you was 7 lol , we use to always come over each others house when i use to live in the trailer park. im qlad you was my friend & i will never forget you, i love you :) I was bless to have a good friend like you ! Why, Why, Why don’t these children use seat belts??? So many would still be alive, if they had their seat belts on. We are NOT doing a good job of teaching our children….. and grandchildren

Please please please, don’t let this beautiful young lady have died in vane! Wear your seat belts young people. Your chances are so much better if you have one on. Accidents can happen to anyone but please learn from this tragedy, remember her, honor her, and learn from this. My sincerest prayers to her friends and family, may God bring you peace. I am so sorry for your loss.

The Facebook comment was by me,
    For you :)
I have to sit around and wonder,
and watch the days go by.
I look at all the pictures,
and ask, why did you have to die?
You’ve always been there for me,
    because you were my friend,
and I was always there for you
    until the very end.
But now it’s time to let you go,
    your spirit now is free.
Even though you won’t really be gone,
because you’ll live inside of me.
So when we have to leave you
    at your resting place,
    I will always remember
    your smiling, beautiful face.
    This is hardly a goodbye,
    so I won’t weep anymore,
because now you’re in better place
    then you ever were before.
Even though that I will miss you,
and I’ll think about you everyday
    you’ll always be my friend,
and that’s all I have to say.
R.I.P Shakylia M.Chess i will truly miss & you will always & forever be in my heart & i love you :)

If it doesn’t matter if you wear a seatbelt because the invisible sky god can “take” you when he wants, why bother doing anything, don’t eat, don’t take fluids and just sit there till “he takes you” and be gone. Superstitious sillyness.

  12. Preventable Tragedy says:

According to the Daytona Beach news journal “the 16-year old girl was hanging with the wrong crowd, drinking and smoking pot, her mother said Sunday afternoon. But the teenager wanted to do what she wanted to do, Singleton said: “She wanted to smoke her weed and drink.” In either case, both Singleton and Fredrick believe Shaklyia was drunk. A toxicology test is pending, according to the FHP report. “My daughter didn’t even have a license.” her mother stated, and if any of these accusations are true, if the teen was responsible or had great parenting, this is a tragedy that could have been avoided. My condolences go out to the family and countless people that the loss of this teen has affected. I hope this is a wake up call for many parents and hopefully at least one person will learn from this tragedy and the tragedy could save a life some day.

My heart and prayers go out to all that loved this beautiful you lady.My son was also in a car crash near the same spot in Dec. 2009 he was on his way to work when he lost control in the left lane,he over corrected and ended up rolling his car about 4 times the witness’ said he then ended up in the tree’s after taking down a few small tree’s,he was wearing his seat belt he left the hospital the same day in a back brace,he broke L1 and L2 .A few years earlier my son in law and my at the time 3 year old grandson were in a accident in almost the same spot he was driving a full size older modeled pick up,a motorcycle came flying around a curve and slammed face first into the drivers side tipping the truck over onto it’s side, the motorcycle driver died on impact and his wife a few days later, she was on the back of the bike,in the truck, they were all wearing they’re seat belts,I Thank God for saving my family but wonder WHY? WHY? such a you and beautiful young girl with her hole life ahead of her? I can not wrap my head around it,why not some sicko that deserves to die? So young,so Pretty and so loved.WHY? I never knew her but I think just to meet her for a second in my life it would have been a blessing.I just can not stop crying and I did not know her, this is just not fair.My DEEPEST SYMPATHY goes out to all her family and any one who loved this child.PLEASE B-U-C-K-L-E U-P!! you can see my son’s car after the crash on my facebook page Donna Parrish-Peters,it will be the very last photo album,I will add my son in law and my grandson’s on there as well..God Bless
