Video: Gobble Trot in Central Park Raises Dollars and Turkeys for the Needy

Local residents with a spring in their step gathered Saturday morning at Palm Coast’s Central Park in Town Center for the First Annual Gobble Trot Benefit walk to help provide Thanksgiving dinner to those in need. The $20 entry fees will be used to buy a Thanksgiving dinner basket for single mothers and their families in the Flagler County area.
Flagler County has a particularly acute poverty problem when it comes to single mothers with children under 18: the poverty rate in those households, according to the Census bureau’s figures for 2009, is 44.9 percent.
“It was a small turnout, but we were able to raise over $500,” Camille Billy, one of the organizers, said. “We will be able to feed 20 families with a Thanksgiving meal. We will personally be delivering these meals, along with five families given to us by Alpha Pregnancy Center.”
