Flagler County Education Foundation’s 4th Josh Crews Writing Project Fundraiser Oct. 25
FlaglerLive | October 11, 2014
The Flagler County Education Foundation is holding its fourth annual Josh Crews Writing Project fundraiser for the evening of October 25, 2014 from 6:30 to 11:00 pm. The event is named after the late co-owner of Woody’s BBQ, killed in a car accident in Palm Coast in November 2010. Crews was an avid reader and writer.
“We are very excited as this is a banner year,” says Committee Chair Carla Cline. “We will be crossing the threshold of over $50,000 raised and donated back into the Flagler County education.” To date, the writing project has published two anthologies of writing and is now in its third year under the leadership of Belle Terre Elementary School teacher Abbey Cook. A website is in the works to help promote the creativity of the students, and plans to expand into higher grades and also being discussed.
This year’s theme for the event is “The Great Gatsby,” the 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The event will be held on the oak tree-lined and fully landscaped grounds of Nature Scapes Gardens at 313 Old Brick Road in Bunnell. Tickets for the event are $100 per person and include food, drinks and entertainment supplied by the Flagler Youth Orchestra. Dressing up in the 1920’s style fashion is greatly encouraged. The newly relocated Salvo Art Gallery, formerly Hollingsworth Gallery, will also be open, and will donate 20 percent of all art sold the evening of the party back to the writing project.
Tickets for the gala are available online or at Woody’s BBQ, at 99 Flagler Plaza Drive in Palm Coast. Sponsorships are also available for businesses that want to become involved in shaping the future of young readers in Flagler County.
Organizers of the event include Carla Cline, Joe Rizzo, Teresa Rizzo, Cindy Dalecki, Maggie Hackett, Keelyn Eickert and others. Generous sponsors for the event to date include Intracoastal Bank, Flagler Dental, Flagler Animal Hospital, Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Memorial Gardens & Crematory, ERA Real Estate, Marketing 2 Go, Curley Tail Design, and Woody’s Bar-B-Q.
