On Feb. 28, the Flagler Youth Orchestra and the Central Florida community of musicians lost Conductor and Music Director Jonathan May. Jonathan had led the Flagler Youth Orchestra since its inception five years earlier. In April, a friend, colleague and former student of Jonathan’s, Caren Umbarger, of Minneapolis, Minn., was named artistic director and lead conductor of the Flagler Youth Orchestra. Here’s a photo gallery spanning performances and rehearsals under both directors, from 2009 until Umbarger’s first classes with the orchestra in April.
